Um, yeah sure - it's just the Muslim's and Christians way of putting atheists in their place...LOL

Because atheist is not a religion. You do not capitalize theist either. Nor do you capitalize evolution just like you do not capitalize gravity. But some people think of these things as religions, hence it becomes Atheism and Evolution. Its very common for us to do this now but technically they are not pronouns.

Look atheist up in the dictionary. It is not capitalized. Atheism is a belief system, not a religion. Agnostic, infidel, religious and skeptic also are not capitalized.

Names of religions are typically capitalized. My understanding is that atheism is not a religion.

Atheist is not a proper noun. Muslim, Christian, and Jew are all proper nouns. This is a grammar rule that also applies to soda vs. Coke or telephone company vs. Verizon.

Well...I think most of us prefer it not capitalized anyhow... It's more of a mindset rather then a label like religion is.
