Oh, it's always allowed, but it's seldom encouraged.
Daniel Dennett thinks that, deep down, most people are afraid of "a breakdown in consensus." Let's face it, nobody wants to hear an adult observe (for instance) that while of course she loved her parents, she also hated their manipulations and their casual cruelty. You can't have people saying things like that, it's just too dangerous. It's like pulling on a loose thread -- you don't want the garment to unravel because then you would know it was poorly constructed to begin with.

We are a nation of free speach, and many times it is abused.
And it seems theres alot of that world wide.
Every body works on their own opinion via their own life's
experience. There is a rotten apple in every bushel, be you
Atheist or Christain. I don't argue the point, as no one can force faith or love.
I think Atheists have a voice, and a loud one in action by the
actions of our now world of any thing goes, especially on the
Hollywood scene, lack of self respect .

Last week at work a hard core fundie heard me say "praise Jeeezzzuss" when something good happened. He approached me later and said that since he knows I'm an Atheist he was offended by me saying that. How would you have responded?

As free thinkers we are endowed with an ability that our religious believer friends lack; intelligence and logical reasoning.
The religious arguments placed in here are mainly quite fickle and are disproved easily. This is your best training ground also, argue fervently and with conviction, but be intelligent and try to stay away from the derogatory. Then when you are confronted by one of the many soldiers of christ, you can smite them wither their own hilarious and fickle words.
In dog we trust.

Bettie,
I personally see nothing wrong with it. I just try not to offend others by pushing them to be "like me". I do not really want anyone to be "like me". I want them to be better than I could ever be. I feel you are entitled to your own opinions and you may certainly express them at any time. You are never nasty toward me or others that I have seen. Why should enyone take offense to you having an opinion? I don't... Have a wonderful weekend and a glorious week.
Thanks,
Eds

We can speak our minds anytime we want to. We can also lose our friends, our jobs. Family may no longer recognize your existence. You won't win public office. Ignorant people will heap ridicule on you. Young children will run away when you approach. Older children will spit on you. Dogs will try to bite you. But, in the end you will know you are right.

We're "allowed" to speak our minds whenever we want to. Of course, it usually gets you reported or generates hate mail, but that's the problem with Y!A...
