Refusal to honor appropriate boundaries such as the fact that a child is able to marry someone of a different religion or make other lifestyle choices. Also, refusal to honor appropriate boundaries by being verbally or emotionally abusive, or otherwise taking advantage of someone (e.g. being a freeloader, not paying back money, etc.) The situation varies, but overall, I think it boils down to lack of boundaries/respect.

Obviously you have not had a hard life.

When a person has been hurt too much by that "family" they realize that the being is Not family, for family cares, and not harms.

I know fathers who have kicked out there kids onto the streets, And no the kids were Not taking drugs, nor drinkers, nor trouble makers.

You then realize , after spending hell on the streets, that the real family to keep around you , are the friends in life that dont harm you, and actually care about you. And most importantly show that care.

Only those whom have gone through such heartache in life, can understand.

Experience in the shoes are that which makes one Know.

I would love to know why you are asking this question. But since I don't know, I will put in my 2 cents.

I am considered one (of three) black sheep in my family. Not because I did anything bad. I was just different. I dared to question the statis pro etc.

I am not a judgemental person (though the rest of my family is). That was one of the biggest strikes against me. I was willing to accept people for who and what they were even if they were different from me.

In my family this was wrong. If people were not just like them, then the people were in some way inferior.

I've heard all the racial, social, religious, jokes and slurs you can think of.

I prefer to accept people as they are, faults and all, and I don't care what color their skin is, or what religion they practice, or if they practice none at all.

The bible says "judge not least you also be judged." My family doesn't seem to understand that. A lot of people don't.

When it comes right down to it, you can only be who you really are and follow your heart and be who you think is the kind of person you should be.

I don't know if my answer has helped you, but I thank you for the opportunity to respond.

When the behavior of a certain family member becomes too painful for the others to bear, they must distance themselves from that member for their own well being and perhaps survival.
