Firm handshake, look them in the eye, smile (not too cheesy though) and say "Hello Mr/Mrs ________ (or first name if they tell you), nice to meet you"
when you say goodbye...same thing...handshake, smile and say "It was nice meeting you Mr/Mrs________ (or first name). Remember too...some have the tendency to shake a woman's hand by gently holding her fingers...in the business world this is a no-no a nice firm handshake is appropriate.

Hello, I'm Bill Matthews. Offer hand. Shake hands. He responds. You say, Great to meet you Tom. Just fly in from Toyko? (banal conversation)

It was good to meet you, Tom, and I'll get back to you on that proposal. Have a great trip home. Good-bye.
