I've never been to Atlantic City, but I recently read that casinos were not legally permitted to ban players based on skill, i.e., they could not kick out card counters. Is this true or was the guy misinformed? It seems to me that if it were true, the city would have to shut down blackjack unless they changed the rules to nullify the effects of counting. Is that what's happening, and if so, what measures do they take?

Katie is an idiot....casinos in Nevada are private clubs and can kick you out for any reason......not so in new jersey....it is illegal for the casino to throw you out. besides , lots of questions about counting cards but zero posts about winners counting cards because it takes a small amount of effort to do so. so most black jack players like yourself will take the free drinks, tip the cocktail waitress several times for several free drinks get drunk and stupid and lose; give back any winnings in stupid drunken play, and lose even more than they planned because of the convenient ATM right there!!!

If the law has in fact been changed to prevent casinos from kicking out card counters, fixing the problem would be very simple. They could go to single deck blackjack, which really cuts back on the use of card counting. Or they can go the other way and have eight decks or so with a frequent reshuffle with a shufflemaster machine. If the shoe is frequently reshuffled, the count you establish will not give you a sufficient edge to benefit from it.

But all casinos have the right to ask you to leave the casino at any time and without giving a reason. So I find it hard to believe that they would not be able to find a simple way around this law, if it indeed has been changed as you suggest.

Card counting is considered cheating as it gives an unfair advantage to the player. Though it is not as apparent as say installing a camera or mirror behind the dealer, the concept is the same. The casino's advantage is having a large amount of money to cover winnings since dealers statistically, over a period of time, win. You might say that the casino already has an unfair advantage and card counting should be allowed because it just levels the playing field between dealers and players. I would tend to disagree. Players already know of the dealer's advantage, plus the casino tells the players what the dealer's actions will be for each hand they are played, it's really up to the player whether they want to take that chance. That's why it's called gambling. Someone had answered that a casino can throw you out if you are winning too much. From personal experience, casinos will not throw you out if you are winning too much money (that is if you are not cheating, they will prosecute you if you are cheating). Actually, they will try to keep you in the casino for as long as possible or until they win their money back. They will give you rooms (for free, with attendant security guards), comp your meals, your drinks, get you a limo. If you win a ton of money, they will bend over backwards to make sure that that money end up back in their cage as oppose to another casino's cage. That's why almost all casinos have some type of membership clubs that rewards customers and keep them loyal regardless of their winning performance. Because they know, in the end, the house always wins.

Casino's can kick you out and they don't even have to tell you why, so if they think/know you're counting, they probably won't say "you're a counter, get out" they would probably just say, "we don't want your play".
The thing about banning based on skill is kind of right, so the idea is that counting gives you an advantage that other players generally don't have, but the information is all out there for them to see and utilize, so its not your fault that other people can't count cards, so really they can't kick you out for counting or shuffle tracking. So rather than call you a counter to your face, they just ask you to leave and if you ask why, they go to the "reserve the right to refuse service" line.
They can't do anything to stop the effects of card counting except have their staff trained to spot it and have a network of communication with other casinos to let them know to watch out, and spotting counters right away and getting them off the table as soon as they can. You know, they have cameras everywhere, and each has the ability to take facial and profile pictures of you and create files on counters and share that information with other casinos.

Casinos are considered private clubs and can throw you out whenever they want to. Card counting is extremely easy for casinos to catch, since when the cards are in your favor you will increase your bet and then decrease your bet when the odds are in favor of the dealer. Once a casino sees you doing this they will immedially ask you to quit playing blackjack. For every 1 person that can make money counting cards, 99 will lose money. It is really that simple.

Casinos, at least the ones I see on the Native American reservations in southern Oklahoma, use multiple decks of cards, sometimes eight or more. This pretty much destroys any advantage you might have counting cards, as they shuffle long before the mega-deck is used up.

Casinos reserve the right to refuse to allow anyone to gamble at their facilites. If they catch you counting cards, then they can throw you out....even if they suspect you of it.
