They can be a symptom in a person already battling cancer and undergoing treatment, which is where I think you made this connection, but no, you probably do not have cancer. Maybe you have allergies which make it hard to breathe through your nose so you use your mouth (very drying) or you lick your lips too much, or use a lip balm containing too much menthol ingredient or water. I swear by everything made by Alba for lips. They use cocoa butter, lanolin, and other really good things. Actual "chap stick" and lip glosses just seem to make mine worse! It could be their alcohol content, but I've found most products containing mostly petroleum byproducts to be less than helpful anyways. I have heard that "Chap Stick" makes a new product which claims to be "natural" and contains cocoa butter, I am thinking of trying it, but am so hooked on my Alba that I don't think I'll need to.

Chronically chapped lips in someone who had lots of sun exposure COULD be an early sign of cancer. It usually occurs most on the bottom lip. It the lip issue doesn't clear in 8 weeks, see a dermatologist. Trick that helps healing: put had lotion thickly on your lips and let it soak in for 5-10 minutes, then seal it in with vaseline or chapstick

No. This could be dehydration. This could also just be. I have had dry chapped and cracking lips all my life all year long. I sleep with my mouth open about half the time and I sleep with a fan pointed on me, so it truly is just dry skin and a need for good chap stick.

hardly. Unless you have been exposed to radiation. In which case, by the time chapped lips came into the picture you would be near death. try drinking 64 ounces of water everyday and do not use chapped lip products containing cetyl alcohol.

Nope, if it was a sign of cancer all if us in the midwest all have to be checked out.
Up your water intake, use a soft toothbrush on your lips to take someof the dry, flaky skin off your lips, and then apply a good, all natural chapstick to your lips. That should take care of it.
If you're still really worried about it and are confused about it you should talk to a nurse or your doctor. It's better to ask and have it checked out then to hide and be scared about it.

Nope - just a sign that you've been out in the cold, maybe, and that you lick your lips too much then. Drink more water and that will help, too.
