I asked because someone asked how are Christians gonna dress for halloween..... I noticed a few responses from Catholics stating what and who they were going to dress like....

What is the purpose of halloween? It is supposed to be satanic right?!?!

Halloween originated from the Pagan festival Samhain, celebrated among the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is now celebrated in several parts of the western world, most commonly in Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom.

The term Halloween (and its older rendering Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the evening of/before "All Hallows' Day", also known as "All Saints' Day". It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions, until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints' Day from May 13 to November 1.

Halloween was started by the catholic church. Whether if they believe it or not is beside the point.

mama is pagan. And pagan is just another word for being satanic. IF Halloween had nothing to do with satanism, then someone needs to go and tell all the people who openly admit that they are into satanism that their beliefs are wrong.

"Abstain from all appearance of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22

"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD," 1 Samuel 15:23

Up Date:

Midge, the satanic bible uses the same wording as well with only 1 or 2 word placed differently base on the NIV. And that the same company that prints the NIV also prints the satanic bible. Zondervan is owned by HarperCollins.

Halloween is a traditional holiday, and is not endorsed by any religion except "Neo-Paganism." But Halloween is older than Neo-paganism.

There is no serious religious group or cult that worships the Judeo-Christian version of Satan. And even if there were, it would not have the power to organize a holiday that would stick around.

And while some Fundamentalist churches still insist that Halloween is Satanic, they are a small (albeit noisy) minority of the Christian faith.

Halloween has nothing to do with Satan. It was a pagan holiday that Christianity overlayed with "All Hallows Eve".. as they did with most pagan holidays.

Basically, the timing of this celebration was around WAYYYY before Christianity and the concept of Satan.

Supposedly, by dressing up, you confuse the spirits who walk the earth that night..and they leave you alone. The holiday also had to do with crops and the changing of the season.

Anyone who equates Halloween with Satan simply is ignorant...and has either been fed a spoonfull of misinformation....or has made assumptions that are incorrect.

OMFG!!! This what I hate. HOLLOWEEN IS NOT SATANIC!!! It is just a day to go around dressed as someone or something that you really like and collect candy!!!! And it is originaly a Pagan tradition in which the dead could come back to earth and communicate with their family. And for the record, PAGAN RELIGION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DEVIL!!!! They don't even beleive in the devil. But to actually answer your question, yes, catholics partake in Holloween.

No, Halloween is the one night in which little children can be scary and and can get away with going from house to house getting candy.

Yes.

Halloween is actually like Christmas Eve. The night before a Christian holy day.

It is the eve of All Saint's Day or All Hallows Eve or Halloween. Just like "hallowed be Thy name."

But just like Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday), Halloween has taken on a life of its own.

Christians including Catholics do not fear death, evil, or Satan. In Christ, we can laugh in the face of death.

From an email I received: Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside, and scoops out all the yucky stuff--including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

And finally, Halloween is fun. Click here to create your own Jack-o-Lantern: http://www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/pumpkin_sim.html

With love in Christ.

lol...If I was going to choose any "religion" to be, I would probably choose Catholic. You can drink and do anything else you want to and go to confession and everything is A OKAY! Seriously though, my best friend is Catholic and Halloween is her favorite holiday and she gets loaded quite often!
