So far, in the Australian military, women cannot be "front-line combat" troops. They can fight only if they are attacked in a rear-line position.
Many Australians feel that women should not be in the front-line and therefore have pressured the government to keep its old policy on this point. There are some in the community who say that women should be allowed into any and all positions in the military, including front-line combat roles. They, so far, have been in the minority.

I'm not sure if they'd budge for a tranny... there are operations these days.. I'm not sure how they would be classified.. but you might set a precedent. I'm not actually suggesting this.
