Toon Disney Commercials

The Disney Channel is one of their non-commercial stations where they show their own programming and promos for their upcoming movies and other products. They make their money off their other holdings which are quite extensive. So they can afford to show programming without commercials on this one channel. Here is a list of part of their holdings: ABC TV Network, ABC Family, ESPN, Disney Channel, Soapnet, Touchstone Television, Buena Vista Television, Buena Vista Games, Disney Publishing, Touchstone Pictures, Miramax, Buena Vista Theatrical, Disney Cruise Line, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Disney Hong Kong and 72 radio stations. Their 2006 revenues was $34.3 Billion Dollars.

The cable company pays them like a dollar a holler for subscribers. When I was in cable sales USA cost the cable company 35 cents. So if cable penetration in the U. S. is 78% and there are say 100 million households, then USA gets paid each month $35 million by the cable company and also have advertising. Now I'm not sure exactly what Disney got but it was over a dollar back then. They run old and new stuff and the old stuff is from their vaults mainly.

ESPN used to be 65 cents. So that's a good question and I only know it because I was in the business. TBS and WGN were like 17-20 cents, but mega commercials. Take care.

By over charging all those people that go to Disneyland, Disneyworld or buy any Disney merchandise in the shops.

Not too difficult to then run a tv channel without commercials.
Its really just one big commercial for Disney. The more kids watch...the more they want the latest Disney products.

Am I being cynical?

The channel has to pay for the programming on its channel.

They then sell their "programming" to the cable company.

Some channels are specialty channels which you have to pay extra for. These channels usually don't have commercials.

Disney makes about few billion dollars a year from its theme parks. Everything they do advertises those theme parks.

Well Disney is a HUGE corporation and some money from anything Disney like the theme park, any shows that might be touring, etc. goes to funding for that!

They make so much off the movies and their parks that having a channel is just advertising their name. In the end they do not profit but who cares. The name Disney is being shown and they can afford it.
