Every time I take kitty to the vet in the car, she meows. Is she not used to this? We go through it every yr. What can I do to help ease her fear of traveling in the car?

Thanks so much everyone. Yes, I will bring along her favorite toy. I think she may enjoy that very much indeed. :-). She's my favorite little girl.

All my cats do this. You might try putting her favourite toy or catnip in with her otherwise there's not much you can do.

First off, I always use a carrier when I travel with the cat. I don't want her to go flying if some idiot cuts me off and I have to hit the brakes.
I started out by leaving the carrier on the floor with a towel, a t-shirt I'd worn and one of her toys in it. The cat got used to it being there and sometimes used it as a hiding place or to take a quiet nap. Then I started closing her up in it and taking her out to the car, just leaving it in place and bringing her back in after a few minutes. After a while of that routine I started doing short trips with her. I took her to a quiet pet store (the music at Petco is too loud). I think it helps when they don't associate every trip in the car with the vet. She's a good traveler now. We had a 3hr ride this summer to go on vacation and she curled up and napped for the trip.

There's nothing you can or need to do. She's scared because it's a big change, the whole world is moving and she's stuck in a tiny box when she didn't want to be. For short trips like this, it's not something to worry about. You can try talking to her reassuringly as you drive, to remind her she's not alone but otherwise don't worry about it.

Its normal, the cat is out of her enviroment. She is quite safe in a pet carrier, I usually put my cat on the floor of the car in hers it seems to calm her more. But yes she does meiew alot.

I let my cat sit on my lap and look out the window when i drive,he loves it very much! They are so comfortable with letting them out of carrier;what they can see isn't as scary as what they can't see! Just like humans! My babies are my humans.....
