Im a permanent resident of the US, is it possible to live in the US 6 months of each year and in another country the other 6 months. My job requires for me to go back and forth just for three years.

You can stay out of the US to work as long as you maintain the residency status in America.

My wife is a resident alien of the United States and a citizen of Mexico. She travels back and forth across the boarder as she pleases; however, as she travels in Mexico she obtains a visa from the different check points she travels through the country. This is usually the payment of a entry fee or bribe and having the visa stamped. Without doing so could result in jail until a substantial fine is paid. As for returning to the United States there is no problem; just usual Immigration and Customs declarations. Once you have Resident Alien status you always have it unless you are a habitual criminal offender which revokes your status and your deported permanently.

yes, it is possible, although it would seem as though you are abusing your green card and treating it like a multiple entry visa, it is still allowed/valid.
