i have a cat that i adopted and she just got around to bonding with me.she has been with me for 10 months.i just let her be until she was comfortable and trusting enough in her new environment(she was declawed and the people that had her grew tired of caring for her so they threw her outside to fend for herself)it was'nt easy and i would become frustrated at times because i wanted her to be like my other two cats.
patience, caring and understanding will get you through it.just hang in there with her and whatever you do please do not destroy her.that is not fair to the animal.

Cats are creatures of habit and hate change. She is still adjusting. About three years ago, I adopted an adult cat (about a year old) from the humane society. She was freaking nuts for the first few months, it took nearly a year for her to calm down enough to where I was sure I would keep her and really only in the last 6 months has she been acting like a "normal" cat (coming when I call her name, not attacking my leg if I surprise her...) Bottom line, kitty needs more time to adjust. As long as she's not hurting anyone or being really destructive, I think you just need to give her time. Don't force her to be social or to play with you. As she gets comfortable in your home, she will warm up to you. Let her get used to you on her own schedule and as she adjusts, she will be friendlier with you. Also, did she come from a home with other cats? Is she and only cat at your house? If she came from a home with other animals and now is an only pet, she may feel lonely and be extra scared because of that.

Cats are funny creatures they decide who they like and develop a strong attatchment and it is not based on who gives them food or treats. If this cat was owned her whole life by the same person and that person says she was sweet and loveable then the cat has probably attached to her former owner and is confused and missing her. If there is anytime the cat willing comes near you try and set up more of those times and see if she starts to be a little more friendly. You might have her checked by the vet to make sure she is not having any health or dietary issues that are contributing to the problem. Good Luck

I got one from the shelter who was 6 years old, and she never warmed up to me at all, staying very stand offish and not wanting contact. She'd been part of a family for her whole life, and I think she was just hoping she could go back to the people she knew, that she didn't understand why she was with me.
I had my sister watch over her for a year (she took her to college when she went west, had an apartment and wanted a cat) but even she couldn't get the cat to be very friendly with her. We found another home for her....I felt bad but this poor cat was just not interested in being with anyone but her other original family she grew up in.

ugg!! i would try to 'force' her to play with you (go into a bathroom or small room with no furniture for her to hide under/behind and try giving her a pingpong ball or some other toy and play with her. At first don't pet her, or even give her eyecontact. Do this for 5-10 mins every day. Each day, try getting closer to her. Start by giving her eye contact, then petting her a little, and eventualy holding her). Good luck!

If this animal isn't working out for you and you honestly don't feel like putting forth the effort anymore, just find a new home for her. I think thats the best thing for both of you right now.

Look into local animal shelters or ask friends. You aren't doing yourself or the cat any favors by keeping it if you both don't like each other.

if you really cant bond with her i would consider telling the lady that it isnt working out. please do not give her to a kill shelter, she will never have a chance. maybe she is a semi-feral cat, just scared of humans.
