According to one philosophy, we are here to learn and to have fun. That presupposes an original intent, which is by no means proven. I look to science for answers. Even though nobody knows what happened at time zero, theorized to be about 13.7 billion years ago, high energy physicists can explain nucleosynthesis of matter from energy all the way back to less than a quintillionth of a second after time began. The invocation of either multiple universes or an intelligent designer are highly controversial, and both ideas have been criticized by some as being presently untestable, and therefore not within the purview of contemporary science.

Okay, that wasn't very entertaining. Sorry. How about this -- somebody asked Robin Hood how he always manages to hit the target dead center with an arrow. He explained, well, first I shoot the arrow, then I paint the target around it.

As are the sand of time so are the universes in the multiverse.

Given that M-Theory gives the possibility of infinite universes, we are just one of an infinite number of universes.

Edit:
Just for correctness sake, there are approximately 400 billion galaxies with anywhere 100 billion to 400 billion stars in each one. Most of the matter in the universe is "Dark Matter" and the nothing of space is made up of dark energy.

Edit 2:
I'm still waiting to find out why people think there needs to be a why, purpose or meaning. It seems like these notions were passed when I wasn't around to vote.

How do you know it is "here"? Where is "here"? What is a universe? You already made too many assumtions/mistakes, the first being thinking that you know anything at all, your ignorance is total.

d) everything that God has made, be it you and me, or wildlife, or angels, or stars and planets, have been created for his glory. when i see a breathtaking view of the milky way or peer at saturn through a telescope, i am amazed at the wonders of God

when we see the vast number of stars, then read that scientists have discovered thousands upon thousands of galaxies, each containing millions of stars, we should be stand in reverent fear of a God so immense to make all that and call it the work of his fingers

According to steady state theory, the universe has always existed, and has forever been expanding. The question of why is it here, is the same as why wouldn't it be?
