The problem could be that the fuel line is getting hot and causing a vapor lock. Follow the line from the carb and see where it may be contacting or near the exhaust, if you find such a location, try rerouting or insulating the line.
A bad ballast resistor can be easily checked with an ohm meter. When they go bad, the vehicle won't start at all.
Has the fuel pump been worked on? I'm not sure if it is in the fuel tank that year (later models were) but if it is, the vent hose may be crimped causing fuel starvation..
Check the obvious stuff first. Once you experience this condition, you could carefully disconnect the fuel line and crank the engine and check to see if the pump is working.
I had a 1989 Ramcharger, if it had claws I swear it could've climbed a tree.
additional: If you know it's not a fuel problem, then check the electrical stuff. You may have to throw parts at it until you get it corrected.

First you need to know if it's in the fuel or fire. When it does it, pull the coil wire out of the distributor and have someone crank the engine while you hold the end of the distributor wire about a quarter of an inch from a ground. If no spark, it's probably going to be a bad pickup coil in the distributor. Pickup coils are real bad to go out when they get hot. If you DO have a spark, take the air cleaner off and look down the carb. while working the accelerator linkage. See if you are pumping fuel in the carb. If not, the fuel filter in the gas tank is probably becoming clogged and letting it set for a while allows trash on the filter to loosen so enough fuel will get through to start and run a while longer. If so, remove the tank, remove the pick up unit from the tank and discard the filter off the end of the pick up tube. You don't need it because there is another filter at the pump. Dodge had a big issue on both these problems around this year. My bet is on the pickup coil.

RE:
I have a 1985 dodge ramcharger problem?
It has a 318 engine 4 wd and a 2 barrel carbarater. The problem is the engine dies when warm and willl not start but if you wait 45 minutes to an hour it will start. The only thing I can think of is it might be the coil ballaster, ignition module or the coil and I do not think it is the coil.

The first systems were designed so that when the ECU failed, the engine would not run at all, unlike Fords and Chevys. 1986 was the first year for the Spark Control Computer, which is another system. If the ballast resistor was bad, it either would not start at all, or would quit when you released the starter. The coil is a possibility, but experience tells me it is the pickup coil in the distributor. Besides heat, moisture will affect this pickup coil also.
The SCC is a large box mounted towards the front on one of the fenders, can't remember which side. It will be eassy t ospot, it has 2 plugs with about 50 wires and a vacuum hose attached.

I had a similar problem on a dodge small-block. It ended up being the coil. There was a short only when it got hot.
You need to determine whether it is spark or gas and go from there. Drive it. When it dies, look into carb and throttle it, and see if gas is spraying. If it isnt, is either fuel filter, fuel line too close to exhaust, or sediment in carb (Rebuild carb needed).
If no spark, start with coil, coil wire, then electronic ignition unit.

I got a 5.2L engine 4wd v8 1/2ton dodge ramcharger with a 2 barrel carbarator. I change out the fuel filter and the fuel pump but still it ain t getting the gas to its destination? Look inside the carb but I don t hear the gas flowing inside? Pourd gas inside the 2 barrel carb to give it a chance to start but still my truck won t start? Was wondering what s the problem if my truck ain t getting gas?

pull the air cleaner off and hol the choke open while it runs and see if that works i know that some of them would choke out and they would die if not see if the bellest on the firewall is bad sometime if you take off ond look at the back side you will see if it broke change it anyway it doesn't hurt it mibht be a process of changing a few things could be the distributor also .check points try setting

Try tightening up the existing pan bolts, using torque wrench. This eliminated the leak on my 1985 318.

SOUNDS LIKE EITHER THE COIL OR THE IGNITION MODULE.
CHECK THE COIL COLD AND HOT AND COMPARE READINGS.
AT 70 TO 80 DEGREES THE COIL RESISTANCE OHMS SHOULD BE BETWEEN 9400 TO 12200.
ALSO CHECK OUT THE (TSB) NUMBER 181985A IT HAS ALOT TO DO WITH THESE VEHICLES VAPOR LOCKING AS WELL AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR IF THE COIL IS OKAY.
