Peripheral vision means that you can see things off to the side as well as straight ahead when you are looking forward. It is a good thing.

A symptom of the optic nerve being damaged by glaucoma is that you lose more and more of your peripheral vision.

Peripheral vision is the part of vision that is kinda blurry. When you stare straight at something, it's clear, but the stuff around it is blurry. That's your peripheral vision. Everyone has it or else you wouldn't be able to see anyone sneaking up beside you! Peripheral vision happens because the receptor cells in your eyes are dense in the center of your eyes and not as dense at the edges of your eye :)

i know that everyone does not have it. My dad had worms in one of his eyes as a child and when they cut it out he got tunnel vision in that eye. I suppose the same thing could happen to both someone elses eyes. The definition would be the things one sees but does not focus on, usually at the very edge of ones vision.
