It WAS Dale Earnhardt Sr. I am not WRONG!
Wikipedia:
The 1998 Daytona 500 was run on February 15, 1998. It is memorable in that it marked Dale Earnhardt's first Daytona 500 victory after 19 previous attempts and many heartbreaking finishes.

The race was remarkably clean; there were only three cautions and all for minor incidents.

The race also was the second-fastest in Daytona history coming in second to the 1980 Daytona 500 won by Buddy Baker.

Interesting story I heard told relating to the 1993 Daytona 500 about the "Dale and Dale Show" as called by Ned Jarrett in the broadcast booth while his son was leading Earnhardt to the Checkers.

The story was told by non other than Ned Jarrett at a special dinner for Dale Earnhardt. Now, Ned is also a long time friend to the Earnhardt family. Ralph and Ned were very close friends and fierce short track competitors.

Ned related how the network wanted him to call the end of the race solo and specifically to call it as a Father. Although this conflicted with Ned's desire to remain professional, he let his Father side show through too much in his opinion when he excitedly uttered the "It's the Dale and Dale show and you know who I'm pulling for" comment.

You see, Ned was happy to see his son win but in his soul he would have been just as happy to see the other Dale win, after watching his best friend’s son fall just short so many times.

That comment bothered Ned. He wanted to apologize to Earnhardt for throwing him in the river professionally and as importantly, as a friend.

He contacted Earnhardt and as he was explaining to Dale what had happened and what the apology was for Dale interrupted him and stated, "Ned, never forget, I'm a Daddy, too.

We know why you asked the question.

Two things about opinions you should be aware of are some are just purely prejudiced and others are informed prejudice.

Ned Jarrett is a 2-time Champ. He won 50 races, 35 poles in 342 starts between 1959 and 1966. Out of those 342 starts he had 185 T5's and 239 T10's.

He didn't do that with a "dream team" either.

In 1961, Jarrett, a white man from the South sold a car to another racer trying to make a living from racing. The driver was Wendell Scott. He continued to help Wendell any way he could. That's just typical of the man he is.

I've only heard Ned use the word "great" in reference to two men when it came to what he believes are "the best to ever turn a wheel" and both of them were Earnhardts, Ralph on short tracks and Dale on whatever track he was on.

You can say he's prejudiced but that too is only an opinion. You can't deny his opinion is "educated”. He raced against most of the all-time greats and as a broadcaster was around racing right through most of the modern era, including Gordon's. The man knows racing, he knows talent and he knows what teams can do to help a driver.

It's his opinion that Dale "could do more with less" than anybody he ever saw and he would be "happy to tell that to anybody in front of anybody, including my own son".

Hmmmmmm......Ned's opinion....or yours.

Oh, that's a tough choice!

By the way, Ricky Craven would have been better off to have just named every driver that was greater than him when he drove, but that would have been a very long article.

"Two Win Ricky" cracked the top 20 in points twice.

Always consider the source.

The best stock car driver that ever drove a car. And your a disrespectful idiot!!!! The right answer is Dale Earnhardt Sr.. Jeff Gordon is a great driver but there will never be anyone as good as Sr was. Nascar would be nascar again if he was still around, cuz he would not let them change every year after year. Nascar just has not been the same since his death.

i in my opinion think of that the drivers that are/would be seen extremely some the main suitable and it will constantly be an argued element. occasion, depending on who you ask or what record comes out, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty are constantly or a minimum of a great form of the time swapping the #a million place decrease from side to side. then you particularly can throw the likes of David Pearson, Cale Yarborough and Jeff Gordon in there and in my view, the two one ought to arguably be have the # a million spot. i haven't cherished the certainty that Kurt Busch is a champion, yet in accordance to the guidelines that NA$vehicle has in place with the chase, I have not have been given any determination yet to settle for it. Matt Kenseth in my view became the final deserving champ that NA$vehicle had through fact he gained it by potential of being the main suitable all season long. So Matt on my record ought to flow down as a great, the place Kurt does no longer, yet i'm particular many might disagree.
