My parents are/were Methodist pastors. I was baptized as a baby and have gone to church every Sunday of my life. Some of my friends go to teh Assembly of God church and say because I was never "saved" that I am not a real Christian. I don't even think getting "saved" happens to Methodists. I have just gone to church since I was little, that's just how my family is. I believe I am a Christian, but maybe I am wrong?

Being a Methodist is far better than AOG anyday. My parents were Methodists and didn't go around telling others "You are/ aren't Christian".

Your friends in the AOG are being misled by power hungry fools. Remember, that's Jimmy Swaggert's church.

Every Methodist I know is a kind and caring person, non-judgemental. Please don't fall for that AOG tripe.

You're lucky you have Methodist parents.

Despite being atheist, I am quite comfortable around Methodists.

You don't have to get "Saved" in the sense that the Assembly of God people say. I know a lot of great Methodist who are indeed Christians. If you have come to the knowledge that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and that you have totally submitted your life to Jesus than you are saved.

Wasn't D James Kenedy a Methodist? If that man wasn't saved...NOBODY IS.

If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ then you are not saved, going to church don't make you a Born Again Believer. I am sure you know that our sins seperate us from God and that Jesus came and washed away our sins. When he arose from the grave he forever cleansed us from sin but we must accept him into our hearts by faith. Just Pray this simple pray believeing with all your heart and you will be saved. It must be sincere though and I realize you have gone to church your entire life and maybe we are here right now for such a time as this, just say Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. You should feel a change in your heart, and you will need to confess publicly your conversion to Jesus Christ. Being Baptized by water is up to you but I think the Methodist Church requires it for membership so I recommend you do that. I had a friend in a similiar situation, went to church his whole life, thought he was saved but one Sunday the Holy Spirit touched his heart and deep down he knew he wasn't saved. If you made a decision for Christ please send me an email or if you have any questions I am just an email away, God bless YOU!!!!!! and Praise the Lord!!!!

The original Methodist, John Wesley, preached about personal conversion.
The word "Christian" has many meanings.
If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then you are a Christian in every sense of the word.
If you are simply a Methodist by passive tradition, because your parents were, but it doesn't mean much to you, then you are a Christian in the social sense, but not in the sense of being a follower of Christ.
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than going to a garage makes you a car.
So as I don't know you personally, and you haven't really mentioned where you stand, I couldn't really tell you which of the two definitions of "Christian" applies to you.

Just because you go to church and your father's a pastor doesn't make you saved. Neither does being baptized as a baby. Babies are innocent but they still have a sin nature. Anyone can be saved if they're Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, even Jewish. Just admit you're a sinner and that you believe Christ died for your sins and be baptized (dunked) a a profession of faith and then continue to lead a Christ-like existance.

God's Word tells us that unless we are born again, we will not see the kingdom of God, dear one. And being born again means asking Jesus into our heart, asking Him to forgive us of our sins and choose to live our lives for Him.

While you might believe all the tenets of the Methodist church, you might not have been born again and become a Christian. Just saying you're Christian doesn't make you one.

God bless!

The process of your salvation began with your baptism.

The process continues until the last moment of your existence here on earth.

No one is truly "saved" until Jesus officially says they're saved, come Judgment Day.

Baptism with water, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit is more than sufficient to make anyone an adopted child of God, co-heir with Jesus Christ, a temple of the Holy Spirit, and a member of the Christian church ... and it works 100% of the time, for people of any age ... simply because God desires it to be so.

If the folks at the Assembly don't see it that way, it's their problem.

If Jesus is your source as to how to be saved, then this is what he said:
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. ( John 3 )

So if you want to be a Christian, you listen to the founder of the Christian church - Jesus Christ.

Do you have a relationship with God,do you believe Jesus died for your sins.Going to church is not what makes us christian. Its making Jesus Christ Lord of your life. You will never be perfect, its by grace you are saved not by your works or good deeds.Just pray and confess Jesus as your saviour as he died for your sin and mine. You can go to church everyday of your life and never have a personal relationship with him.Its about praying and learning about who he is and how he expects us to be on this earth.Shalom

Getting saved doesn't just "happen" to anyone. Just because you were born and raised in the church and baptized doesn't mean you are a Christian.

Have you come to a place where you recognize that you are a sinner and turned to Jesus and asked Him to forgive your sins, save you from them, and to make you a new creature in Him?

If not, you are not saved.
