and you would have otherwise had to pay at least 75.00 to call a locksmith.... what would you pay them? It was little inconvenience on his part but a huge help to me. I'm going to catch up with them tomorrow and give them some money (he said keep it between he and I.... him helping me like this is what I mean) I don't know what I should pay him?? what do you think?

he works at the apt. complex I live at, but they aren't allowed to let you in much less replace your lock, I mean, that alone the apt. complex would have charged me $50. I see im a good bit just out working and all, he's a good guy to help me out that way, he did NOT have to... I basically ran him down right as he was getting off work. so anyway, I had no cash on me except for a $5 and I was not about to give him $5, that would have been horrible.

Buy him a case of beer. That always goes down well. If he was a genuine guy sometimes thanks is enough.

hmmm kinda tricky. he said to keep it between you and him. dont do any thing like dinner or lunch or anything big at all. he may have a jealous g/friend or may have left work early when he shouldnt have. if you had a big smile and said thank you thats enough. maybe keep $20 dollars folded in your pocket and when theres a private chance you can offer it to him. but it sounds like he doesnt want money or the attention. i really doubt he helped you for some type of gain im sure your thanks is enough.you could buy him a gift certificate to a beer place or something $20 dollars should be fine.

If the market price is $75, it would be appropriate to give him something lower like $30, a bottle of wine and a thank you card. The bottle of wine is to make it seem not as if you are paying in a low rate but as a token of appreciation for his help.

It would have been easier if you'd been able to slide him a $20 at the time.
Do you know whether he drinks? I've had some young men in my neighborhood do me a favor, and what they said [beforehand] was No Maam you can't pay us but we'd love a 6pack.

Well do you know what he likes? a box of candy or a bottle of champagne? Write a brief note of appreciation? Tell him you will pay it forward sometime to someone else in need and think of him? Or just write a note and put 25 dollars in it? I mean there are alot of factors to consider like if he is poor, how long it took him, etc

At the *least*, I'd offer him $20. I don't know if that'd be insulting to him or not, not knowing his financial situation or yours, but for me, $20 is a nice, round figure and not insulting at all.

Why Not invite him and his girlfriend if he has one over for dinner? That would be a nice way of saying thank you if he is not comfortable accepting money.
