She is a pit mix and I've only seen her do it once so far... I know she doesn't have worms because she has already been treated for it when I brought her home from the shelter. But just in case, I'll check her stool again. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I guess she just had a 2 sec itch.

Can be a number of causes. If it's once in a while, then s/he itches, it feels good to scratch.

If it's happening often - common causes include impacted anal sacs, fleas, or worms. Time for a quick visit to the vet.

Usually in most cases a dog does this when it has worms. The worms cause a burning itching sensation when they get really bad. Otherwise it is just the anal glands being full. I would take him to the vet just to make sure everything is all right.

The anal glands are likely the problem. If so, you will also smell an unusual odor, which means they need to be cleaned out. A vet will stick their fingers up there and get the gross stuff out and they will no longer rub there butt on the floor.
It could also mean worms. A vet visit is the best idea.

It means that its but itches, either from worms, a bug bite, poop on its but, or anything else that can cause itch. If your dog's doing it a lot over several days, you need to get it checked for worms.

It means the anal glands need to be expressed. You can have this done at the vet, the groomer, or learn to do it yourself. If you don't have them expressed they can become infected. A good way to avoid it in the future is to make sure your dog gets omega 3s. You can add either fish oil to the food or flax seed oil.

Typically this is caused by anal glands needing help. Dogs have glands that need to be cleaned out periodically, some dog's glands naturally clean when go potty, but most dogs will need to have them cleaned out. This can be done by a groomer or vet, and they can also show you how to do it yourself.

OMG! I hate it when my dogs do this!! (Though it is kind of funny when they do it on hubby's leg!!) It's just because their bum is itchy. Haven't you ever had to squirm in your seat a little bit?

If we see our dogs doing this, first we tell them off, and then we get some toilet paper and wipe their bottoms for them. Normally dogs will do this outside on the grass, but, if you don't have grass, like us, they'll use the carpet.

It means its butt itches. A lot of times, it means the dog might have worms. (they come out the dogs anus and iritate the dog)

Normally it's a sign of worms....just buy a de-wormer shot to get rid of them. Or maybe it's just dried poo that is irrating the dog.
