How about a Honda Accord from a few years ago? They seem to run forever with little maintenance. Look in the Kelly Blue Book to see how old it would have to be to fit your definition of cheap. Then look at the ads for one from that year.

Toyota Echo.
Parts are cheap, for a Toyota, and the gas milage is amazing. They are reliable handle extremly well and there is nothing to lube on the chassis.
I have owned many a swell car but the Echo beats them all hands down.

Well you're 17 which means you cant enter into a legal contract, so it would have to be a private party cash deal. In that case its really up to your budget. But the aveo is a great vehicle. The cost of ownership is very low.

I would suggest buying any of the top 3 Japanese makes. Such as Toyota, Honda and Nissan. As far as getting an idea of pricing for cars look at www.nada.com. Their prices are compiled by actual sales of vehicles the week before. Where as www.kbb.com is compiled by what people are asking and can reflect gigantic differences in what a vehicle sells for and what they asked for a selling price.

Chevy Aveo or Hyundai Accent- any year. They have great warranties, are small, but the safest in their class, and are stylish. Good Luck. They both get 35 MPG.
