I really want to know. Are you seriously trying to tell me that some all-powerful, infinitely merciful God would take affront to being mocked and made fun of?

Isn't Jesus supposed to be the best friend we ever have? Well, every really good friend I ever had was somebody I busted balls with. If Jesus was really a good friend of mine, you know what I would say to him: "Hey, Jesus, buddy, you look like a ******* hippie. Cut your your hair, dude. And change out of the dress, you ******* queen!" Of course, if I was really close, tight friends with a guy who was as cool as some people say Jesus was, I wouldn't really care if he was a dress wearing hippie. But I'd make fun of him for it, like he'd make fun of me for being an under-achieving stoner or something like that.

So why do some of you fundies always say "God cannot be mocked!"? I don't think he cares. No, I think he actually laughs along. And then we all have a good laugh at you people who get indignant. We and God laugh at you!

kl--aside from the nonsense about God's laws being met to protect us from harm, I think your answer is one of the more sensible Christian answers I've seen. I think you are reading that verse correctly. But a lot of your fellow Christians do not--I often "mock God" on Yahoo Questions and frequently am admonished that God cannot be mocked--actually, I'm usually mocking born agains and fundies, and not God at all, but they have a bad habit of confusing themselves with God. Perhaps it is an honest manifestation of them "loving God" too much. They are like love-obsessed stalkers on God and assume all their own little cultish, narrow minded opinions are God's opinions. I think that would crack him up, especially while he was doing bong hits.

I mean you no offense, but I think you have miunderstood this verse. It means more like: You can't fool God. If you break His rules, you will end up paying for it in your own suffering. (By the way: please keep in mind in reading this that His law is for OUR OWN good --- it is to protect US from pain).

It really has nothing to do with teasing or making fun of Him. It's more like a law of the universe: What He says is true, and you can't hide what you do from Him. You may think you're getting away with whatever it is you're doing that is wrong, but you will reap the wages of that.

It is not about "making fun" of God.

In this context, "mocking" God means you cannot fool Him, you cannot trick Him, you cannot deceive Him.

God will not be mocked.

Get it?
