cold medicine? My son was born almost 3 months early and he has been given these cold medicines since his first cold. The main problem is parents that don't or don't know how to read the dosages. My husband has been out of work since June so we have no health insurance so I can't afford to pay $80 for a doctor's visit for the common cold for our son.

On the ABC news website I left a comment that maybe they need to keep these meds behind the counter and give parents a reading test first so they can read what the dosage is.

If they are selling it, I will be buying it. I can't imagine not having Tylenol for my child when he wakes up in the middle of the night with a fever. I don't think I am one of those parents who over medicates. I am always very careful not to give meds that not needed for example I don't give Tylenol cough and cold for just a fever and I check to measurements multiple times before giving it.
Mother of 4 year old and 30 weeks pregnant.

I know, tough call. I had given it to my kids the morning of the recall and I was really scared until I found out that it is just because some people don't read the dosage correctly. I did not use it for this bout of colds, but part of me is tempted to run out and buy some to have on hand in case they pull it off the shelves.
Part of me feel like, why does everyone have to suffer? Lots of stuff can hurt you if you don't read the directions. I am already really irritated with the protocol you have to go through to get the sudaphedine (sp?) products. I think the company is just scared of getting hit with so many lawsuits. I think people really have got to start taking some responsibility for their own lives and actions.

I have always consulted my pediatrician to double-check the dosage on any infant meds I gave my daughter. Because the problem is with improper dosing, I don't have a problem using meds again if necessary.
I don't think it's a bad idea to have these meds behind the pharmacy, though. It would ensure that the parent/caretaker would be instructed face-to-face on proper usage, possibly resulting in a small life being protected.

Never did in the first place. A cold just needs to run its course, and nothing stops it - just use a vapourizer.
I agree with you about the reading test - lol. It's absolutely crazy that parents weren't checking the chart, directions, side effects, and measuring!

From what I understand about this recall it's the multisymptom meds....they have a combination of meds in them instead of a single medication. This means you should still be able to get liquid tylonal, sudafed, benedryl and possibly cough medication.
