I moved to an area where ALL the stores around me sell nothing but crappy dog food such as pedigree or IAMS. There are absolutely no stores that sell the good and rare kind of dog food. Even worse, any online store carrying these good/rare dog foods will not ship to my area. I don’t have much to work with. I also don’t have the time and resources to work with a raw food meal. This is how I feed my dog, so far:
I buy frozen/uncooked chicken
I cook the chicken, adding no salts and/or seasonings.
I put the cooked chicken in the refrigerator and feed my dog this chicken for 5-7 days.
I know chicken is good, but not enough. Tell me, in regards to what I am doing so far, good or bad? Can chicken last in the fridge for 5-7 days without going bad? Tell me, what other foods (that I can buy from a regular grocery shop) should be added to the meal. Vegetables?
While you fine people help me out, I’ll go on Google some stuff myself. Thank you.

Try Satin Balls
10# hamburger meat
1 jar wheat germ
1 lg box of oatmeal (uncooked)
1 1/4 Cup vegetable oil
10 eggs
10 sm pkgs unflavored gelatin
1 1/4 Cup unflavored molasses
A pinch of salt
1 lg box Total cereal (2lb's)
(You may also add a pinch of garlic powder to add flavor)
Mix all ingredients together well, much like a meatloaf....put into separate freezer bags and freeze, thawing out as needed. It puts weight on in a very short time, not to mention the gloss in their coat. You can use it every day when they have a show to do and it does not produce diarrhea. It can be fed alone or with kibble.

I buy a raw food called Oma's Pride.
It says they ship overnight anywhere in the U.S. Perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea for you to check out the site. They also sell Canidae dry food so you don't only have to look at Raw as an option.
http://www.omaspride.com
It also tells you the ingredients they put in their different meat mixes. Maybe it will give you an idea of what you can use.

I own a pet store and specialize in holistic foods. Please provide a zip code where I can quickly do a store locator of foods I know are good for your dog. As for Iams or Pedigree....I highly not recommend the foods. Both contain corn and by-products which are not good for your pet. Vets seem to only endorse Iams, Eukanuba, or Science Diet which all contain corn and by-product which are not good foods leading to allergies, overweight problems, among many other problems.
If you are wanting to continue with raw diet, I have some good guidelines to go by so your dog receives a completely well balanced diet. Good luck and kudo's to you for caring so much for your pet.

In the wild dogs get fiber from fruits and the intestians of the kill. Order urban wolf this is a veggie pre mix. they ship to the us, canada and the UK. Tell me if you are out side that and I will find somethig else for you. I would freeze the meat if you are not going to use it within 3 days. Good for you for knowing that iams sucks! Spread the word!

Dogs need vegetable vitamins and minerals, and feeding your dog on just chicken is really not good for it, if I were you, I'd buy the Iams dry and pedigree wet, feed him one serving of dry or wet in the morning and the other at night. It doesn't matter how expensive it is, it matters what it's got in it.

Your dog doesn't need the chicken cooked, it's better for him raw. What I do is feed my dogs Pedigree, and add baby carrots and a raw egg. Sometimes I'll buy them some raw meat and bones and feed them that, with a liquid vitamin supplement.

Pedigree is the cheap food. However, IAMS is a very high quaility and full nutrition food. IAMS is vet recommended. Buy IAMS, and your dog will be healthy and live a long happy life. I do not work for IAMS. I am not prejudiced. I am only stating the facts that countless vets have told me and many others.

I can recommend By Nature Organics kibble. They didn't have anything recalled in the recall, use human-grade ingredients, and domestic (U.S.) sources. One of our dogs has a sensitive tum, and he does well on it. It's available at many pet stores.

The two name brand foods you mentioned are perfectly good for your dog ! ! Cooking chicken for your dog is absurd ! Sorry...A dog does'nt need a "rare" dog food ! And they need more than chicken ! Sorry, you're NOT doing your dog any favors.
