If I remember correctly, sweet tea is brewed with the sugar, right?
Or one would think that at some point, some sugar or other sweetener is added.
Iced tea is just brewed tea. If the drinker chooses to add sugar, lemon, or anything else, like fruit flavorings, that's up to them. Many choose to leave it plain.
Hope this helps.

Sweet tea is loaded with sugar, during or after the brewing process (not sure). It's REALLY sweet and very popular in the south.
Iced tea doesn't have any sugar added, you can add sugar if you wish, but it comes unsweetened.
I'm southern (if you consider Florida southern, some parts are some parts aren't)
I prefer unsweetened tea with lemon.

Technically, sweet tea & ice tea are just "kissing cousins"...so to speak. Real ice tea is brewed, not made from drink powders. Once it's brewed and cooled down, the person who drinks it has the option of adding sugar & lemon to "taste".
Sweet tea is merely iced tea mixed with "simple syrup". A "simple syrup" is made by bringing about 1/2 quart of water to boil and adding in lots of sugar (1-2 cups). Once the sugar completely dissolved into the boiling water & it cools down, then it's considered simple syrup. It can be used in a variety of drinks by bartenders & sometimes even drizzled over baked goods. In this case the simple syrup is just added to the entire pitcher thus creating sweet tea. It's well loved in the South but definitely not the healthiest choice of beverages because of the sugar content.
Northerners tend to make a cup of hot tea and pour it over ice. As a Southerner, I don't like this method. I prefer sweet tea as well.

No. Most northerners (like me) brew the tea and then add sugar (or not - I don't) to the individual glass to their taste. Southern sweet tea is sweetened by the batch, and much sweeter than most people drink it.

Sweet tea is iced tea with sugar in it. In the south they put sugar in their tea and in the north they usually don't.
