Well, my dentist said my top teeth are perfect except for one tooth, which is slightly higher, like 1/10 of an inch. On my bottom teeth, the 4 in the middle are overlapping each other very very slightly also. The dentist said I could use braces for 2 years if I wanted to make my teeth straight and perfect. However, she also said I could live without them. I just started 8th grade, but I don't really want braces because I'll have them in high school. However, I DO want them so my teeth will be straight for the rest of my life and college (I want to join a sorority, and they only pick pretty girls. It sounds superficial, but whatever.). Should I get braces? Tell me the experience you had with them, if you did.

I have an overbite. That's the main problem. Will I need rubber bands for that? Also, my parents aren't worried about the money, so that's not a problem.

Well, if you feel you that you dont really like your teeth then get braces, you shouldnt care what other people think. I have braces and have had mine for 7 months. At the start my friends thought they were really cool, cause none of them have braces. But no-one took the mic out of me and now people are just used to the fact that I have braces and don't think nothing of it. People will notice and be like "wow you have braces how weird" at first, but all that stops after a few weeks.
Experience with braces.. hmm
Well alot of people get the braces rubbing with their inner cheek and lips and get alot of mouth ulsers. But not everyone, I didn't get one and I was expecting alot cause everyone told me to be prepared for them cause they hurt. When you get them put in it feels a little weird like your teeth have expansions on them, but after about a day it feels normal. On the first day you should take antibiotics or something about 4 or 5 hours later cause thats when they tend to ache. The 1st month i had mine tightened i cried, but i'm bad with things like teeth and cuts and stuff. Its nothing to cry about they just tug at the teeth a bit when the wires being changed. The second month i had mine tightened it REALLY hurt, i was lieing in bed all day. Its nothing to be worried about, it's just the fact that the teeth are shifting into place. So it aches, i can only reccommend medicine for that. On the third month it was fine, completely. It didnt ache at all cause they were in place.
Also after you have the braces taken out you have to wear a retainer at night time so they dont shift back into their old places. Ive heard thats for the rest of your life but my dentist has only said 9 months. I'll probs wear mine longer cause i don't wanna waste the 18 months just to find they all go back into the original places.
I think you just gotta be patient with them
Hope that helped x

Keep this in mind ... teeth don't usually straighten out on their own. Whatever problems you have now only get worse as you get older. You may not want to be a high schooler with braces, but will you want to be an adult with braces? If you want to have perfectly straight teeth, braces are definitely in your future. It's just a matter of when. I am over 40 and I have braces. Thankfully, they're going to be off in another month. When you're an adult, you have to pay for them yourself, although I'm fortunate enough to have insurance that is paying for them. Still, I wish I'd had them when I was a kid.

Yes. I also have an over bite but I only need 6 braces on my molars (My back teeth on the top level of my mouth and no one can see them!) I need wires inserted to lift my molars up so I can have a normal bite. And I will be experiencing a retainer afetrwards. You should get braces if you want straight teeth. Most kids gets braces =) They're not bad like people make out to be.
Take my advice and get braces.
your teeth can be straight now but in the future anything could happen to them. Having braces will determine your future with straight teeth =]

Yes. You should get braces, and not for cosmetic reasons. Flossing your teeth is much more difficult when you have crowding and can lead to mesial-distal cavities. I would definitely go with Invisalign brand braces as you can remove them, and they are clear. I have never had braces, however, I work for a chain of 43 dental clinics and I have seen the damage that not being able to floss correctly or effectively can do. Just remember, once you have braces, you should continue to wear a retainer for the rest of your life. Teeth have a tendency to migrate back to their initial eruption orientation. Hope this helps!!

If you decide to get braces you will go through so much pain and suffering before your teeth get perfect. You may even want to stop treatment. I had braces for two and a half years. I got through the entire treatment and I am very glad that I did it because my teeth look amazing now.

I think that whether or not you get braces depends on how "perfect" you want to be for this sorority that you may or may not get into. Don't fall into that trap of having to look perfect because there are a lot of people out there that think they are better than everyone else because they think they look "perfect". Trust me - it's not on the outside that matters - it's what is on the inside. So - should you get braces? I personally do not think you should.

I had braces for a while, they can be annoying for a few days but eventually you get used to them. however, i had them for much bigger reasons. trust me, college is far away in your life and by then you probably will have realized that you don't need to be in a group or gain any ones approval to know that you are a beautiful person. so no, i would not get braces if i was you.

Well there are the braces that are totaly invisable (invisaline) they are good for little changes. I don't have them I just have regular braces but the tops are clearish, before I hated the idea of braces, now I think I look better than before I had braces so it is up to you.

I dont think braces are that bad. They just take time to get used to. After a while you dont even notice you hav them anymore. If you want perfect teeth, then theyre worth it.

No you don't need braces.
My dentist told me I should pull 2 perfectly healthy teeth out because they were making my bite weird! No no no. I decided not to, and he gave me grief, but I don't care, I'm still alive.
Plus, braces are around $3000 or something. Please don't get them. Time and pain and money will be lost.
Unfortunately I HAD to get them. Thank God they're off now.
