I am in a criminolgy class and we were having an online discussion about the death penalty. One of my classmates expressed that they are a minister and I commented that maybe our difference in beliefs might be the reason we disagree with the topic. I am a non-believer. I was only pointing out that now that I know her beliefs, I understand why she feels the way she does. (That God forgives everyone).

This was the response I got.....do you think it was insulting? What do you think of her response to me?

"well Im a wise person and I choose not to respond to this email. I will say this
once you leave this earth your soul is done on earth. that is why he give us the choice
while we are living. there is no second chances your soul will be a rest. So I will end this
conversartion right here, and focus on Criminology.
No bad feelings."

I took offense....should I be offended or am I overreacting?

Thanks.

Well, its not really offensive... Obviously, she misunderstood your point, but is that something to get upset over??

Although, I love it when they talk about how wise they are, then comment that they arent going to respond, then turn around and respond anyways... If anything, the hypocrisy should make you ill...

People can take offence at anything these days. Take it at face value and go on. Don't read into it what may not be there.

BTW God made the death penalty. It was the first punishment for sin (genesis). I can't see how "christians" can forgive people that show no remorse, the whole reason for the death penalty.

You can not let people like that get to you. On the other hand, Don't dismiss the value of the spiritual, to help people to lead better lives, and help them better cope with adversity. Not all spiritual minded people are negative. You probably have some spiritual type people in your life to spice it up a little. Also, in the field of criminality, intuition and hunches can be helpful, so a little bit of devine help may come in handy.

No don't take offense. This person is just very guarded with their personal feelings. They are afraid of their personal emotional space being open. They would feel very uncomfortable telling you what they had for breakfast. They were the one over-reacting out of fear that more openess might be required of them and they were terrified. For one, being open is very unfamiliar territory to them so they lack the finesse that politeness takes that comes from practice. They never venture out of their shell to have any practice and it comes out all angular and odd sounding which reinforces their desire to stay indoors.

Thats one queer bird you are conversing with. "well I'm wise and I choose not to respond" written in her response?!?

I hate peple that say "I am wise".

Nothing wrong with someone ending a conversationc and then saying no hard feelings. That should be respected. Don't convers with this person anymore and consider your self fortunate that you aren't a parishioner of hers.

The Bible says that women shouldn't be ministers. Churches today that have women priests, bishops, ministers or reverends are disobeying God's inspired divine revelation and succumbing to the pressures of today's politically correct society. That being said, she doesn't sound very nice and it appears that she got her panties in quite a wad. She seems very "touchy" and fragile. I think SHE was offended somehow, I surely wouldn't be. Just ignore her. I am a Christian and was always against the death penalty but I have changed my mind when I have read or heard about some of the unbearable horrors victims have had to go thru at the hands of a killer.

If she is wise, she would know that she should listen to the opinions of others and give up her certainty that she is right.

It is this sort of religious dogma that has been holding back the development of western society for millenia.

I wise man gives up one certainty every day

I'd say over reacting. You stated your beliefs, she stated hers and that she didn't want to discuss it. She was polite and she continued to talk to you about the subject you had in common. She might have been a little bit short but what the heck...

You gave them your opinion and they gave theirs.
You are offended by what?
There must have been more in the e-mail you sent because the first line deals with the soul. I really don't think you have described your true words.
Over reacting.

I think your classmate totally misunderstood what you were trying to say. I'd say just let it go and move on. It sounds like that is what she wants to do. I don't think it is worth the trouble of getting annoyed with it.
