On my first account I didn't have a chance to block anyone before I was booted for (I think) what they interpreted as solicitation for my travel agency website. On this account I've only blocked one, and I think that may have been a little paranoia on my part -- I consistently, & I mean consistently, disagreed with the person, and the attitude in the questions made me feel like that person might be the type to get someone removed just for disagreeing. This was before the new reporting policy took effect, though. I dunno, maybe I could unblock & see what happens. Or not.

Yeap, there's been a few who are very popular on here who I have blocked. I didn't have them blocked at first, in fact they were once on my friend list even. (Curious enough I also have one or two people who used to be on my block list now on my friendlist.) I removed them when I didn't wish to see their questions and answers any longer and then I blocked them a few weeks later because I noticed they blocked me.
It really doesn't matter because I have no desire to answer their questions or see their answers any how. So its all quite pointless.
And nope, you can still see them when you block them, they just have a red sign by their name that looks like a no smoking thingy. Supposedly they cannot answer your questions when you have them blocked (but all you have to do is log out to view them). I have also seen blocked people answer my questions before and there is a way around Yahoo's block feature.

Honestly, yes, but mostly in the sense that their answers are nasty or rude, or clear lies.
When you block someone they can't connect to you, see your old answers, questions, contacts, or answer your questions, but you still see their questions (unless you are blocked) and whether you are blocked or not, you will see thier answers, and they yours.
Also, I believe it removes their power to message you.
I know for a fact I have been blocked by people simply because my answer bugged them, or opposed them.
Example, someone asked, will you support Gay marraige if it is legalised? I said no, I am a Christian, and it goes against my beliefs, what they do is their choice, but I choose not to attend Gay weddings.
The asker blocked me, what's funny is I still got Best Answer.
I often also block the more beligerint ones as a means of tracking them.
There are some, I consider trolls, who Repeatedly change their names and continue to be rude, so I use it to track them, help's me see what I am getting into.
I have at times blocked people, and after seeing later answers of their's I removed the block.
Unless you state it, or the blocked tries to answer a question of yours, I don't think there is any way for them to know they are blocked.
Hope this helps.

I do utilize the blocking. Some people, quite honestly, I don't want to be bothered with or harrassed by. Blocking them makes them unable to see your questions and answers. It saves problems and gives me some peace.

I've blocked a ton of people, but not just because they bug me; after getting a plethora of violations, I have had to go through and weed out suspicious contacts. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but when it becomes apparent that one of your contacts is maliciously reporting you there's really no other option.
I think the people I've blocked have formed a support group, "People Blocked by Jack/PBJ"

I block adults who don't know how to act their age, or people who consistently use vulgar language and fallacious arguments. Surprisingly enough, most of them are atheists. Only about five percent of the people I block are claiming to be Christians. I read somewhere that the people you block can't view your questions, and therefore, cannot answer them.

I have only blocked two people here
one was for a laugh just to see what happens when you block someone ( sorry Julia lol ) but I unblocked her
the other was one of chosen by Gods accounts ... but he just gets more anyway
blocking people has its good and bad points
they cannot read your questions , therefore reporting you is more difficult
but you cant respond to their questions therefore cant defend yourself when you have to

I have locked only a couple and they sent me pathetic whiny emails. I just couldn't take it anymore. You can still see them , but they cannot see you. If they block you back, then you are invisible to each other.

No. The only people I block are the ones that always answer hatefully or the ones who I think are suspects for reporting me. lol
