it is possible to over feed a child, or anyone for that manner. The obese children on the Maury show are victims of that unfortunately. Your friend is setting her child up for a life of respiratory problems, growth issues, and most likely an early death if she keeps feeding him this way. The stomach is elastic and it does stretch so the more she feeds him, the more it will stretch. And unfortunately, the boy has probably been trained to ignore that point where one reaches full capacity. Even if he's fed healthy foods, he should not be stuffed with food. His body has to learn to reach a limit and digest. This boy's mother should go with him to the doctor and learn about the proper diet. If she really cares about him, she'll stop stuffing him.

Is he overweight? If not, you've got no beef. He may have a high metabolism and actually burn all the energy. It looks like she's feeding him nutritious food.
On the other hand, if you cherish the relationship you have with this child's mother, you won't mention it again. You brought it up once, she dismissed it, you have to drop it.
It's very possible to overfeed your child. But until the child's BMI becomes out of the normal range, nobody will change the child's eating patterns.
I have struggled all my son's life to get him to eat!! I sure wish he'd eat like that child!! He's 17 now and starting to eat more, but he's never had a healthy appetite.

As long as she's feeding him good food and not junk, I don't see the problem. The biggest problem I see with kids (and I have teens and pre-teens now) is not how often they eat, but their food choices. I try to feed my family good, healthy, organic foods, but I'm a lunch parent at my daughter's school and I see so much garbage in those kids' lunchboxes -- stuff they brought from home! Chips, cookies, granola bars, tons of processed "foods." Yes, America does have an obesity problem, but how many obese people (children included) got that way from eating too many bananas and eggs?

Just look around and see the result of too many kids being overfeed... America has the fattest child population in the world followed now by Australia as of 2005!

All depends on what you are feeding. A banana, eggs and cereal doesn't sound too bad. Now if it were juice, bacon and pancakes- that would be bad. Think about it in calories rather than amounts.

How does the kid look? Overweight? Is his mother overweight? If so, then yes it may be a problem. But if the child is at a normal healthy weight, it's fine, its growing and needs the nutrients. Sounds like its eating healthy foods as well.

small kids have a built in system for telling them how much food their bodies need. however, if that system gets messed up by overfeeding or underfeeding, they become just like the rest of us.
i'd suggest working on portion sizes so the child isn't on the fast track to obesity.

You are probably right; she is most likely over feeding him. At least she seems to be feeding him healthy food, if too much of it.
On the other hand, I can't imagine that your friend would appreciate being told what she's 'doing wrong.' You might want to take care of your own children and let her take care of hers.
