Recently, my sisters cat has been having problems. It can't walk more than three feet before stumbling over, and it claws at the floor and then proceeds to rub it's face on the floor, as well and hit it's head off it, too. My sister said that she had talked to another person and said their cat did the same and that it was an inner-ear infection and that it had to be put to sleep. Does anyone else have any information?

Inner ear infections aren't life threatening and don't require a cat to be put to sleep.

What you're describing sounds more like a seizure or chemical poisoning. Both should be seen asap by a vet. It could be something else entirely - brain tumor, injury from a fall, swelling in the brain, who knows what.

Get the cat an appointment as soon as possible so it won't have to wait days more before treatment starts. This isn't something light like a cat cold or cut paw.

Take the cat to the vet obviously. Whoever put their cat down just because it had an inner ear infection should be put down the next time they get sick. Just because an animal gets sick doesn't mean that it should be murdered. Inner ear infection is NOT EVEN CLOSE to a reasonable reason to kill it!!!! Simple ear drops and anti-biotics can treat it just like in humans. Let me say again that cat DID NOT HAVE to be put down.

Instead of waiting for a response from us the cat should be taken to the vet. Theres antibiotics!! It could possibly be ear mites too. but you should get the poor thing to the vet.

Sounds like balance problem, which could be an inner ear infection.
is the cat rubbing at her ears alot or shaking its head?
Please get it to a vet ASAP.

Your sister needs to take the cat to a veterinarian! The cat is suffering and she should not wait while you search here among totally unqualified people for a "diagnosis".

The cat can either be helped or needs to be put out of its misery. It is very cruel to allow it to suffer.

Hi, the best thing to do would be to take the cat to the vets as theres something thats not quite right. please dont worry about other peoples stories, sounds a little harsh for a middle ear infection.

The sooner she takes it to the vets, the sooner she will know.

you are able to in simple terms throw out your sister if she refuses to throw out the cat looks harsh, yet you have young ones and their desires come first. I say this as a cat lover. in the journey that your sister can not preserve the animal (and she or he's shown she will't), then you definately haven't any criminal accountability to permit it to stay. i'm uncertain why the cat gets the completed room to itself. if no longer something, placed it in a cage or outdoors.

well take her to the vet. you dont want the same thing that happened to your friends cat to happen to yours. my cat started to limp and couldnt walk for a very long time before laying down, and it turned out she had a failed kidney and a tumor all around her organs and had to be put to sleep. Her kidney failed a few weeks before we discovered it, and the tumor had been there ever since she was little, but the vets didn't detect it until it was too late...

The cat's claws are WAY too long. Get a nail clipper that is for cats and cut the claws please. And I would get the cat checked by the vet.
