Absolute best in coastal NC would be live finger mullet or mud minnows for flounder but I have had pretty decent success with the Gulp 4" swimming mullet rigged on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jighead.I have gotten a lot of trout, reds, flounder and sheephead around Morehead and Beaufort area

Gulp Bait For Flounder

I agree with George A.

Your "best" bait for flounder is a Mud-minnow or a finger mullet on a "carolina rig" with a 1/0 circle hook, (15-20" Flurocarbon leader), & a 1/2 OZ weight.

For artificial: I always had my best luck, (in dingy, muddy water), for Flounder using chartruese or gold colored 4" Berkley grubs on a 1/4 OZ jig-head. Berkely "Gulp" Swimming Mullets work well too!

Flounder love jettys and the mouths of Inshore creeks. If you find baitfish & Tidal current you will usually find a variety of fish including Flounder.

Good luck!

Your best bait to use for those fish you want to catch and allot more would be fresh dead shrimp. Fished the Gulf Coast for 30yrs.
