You can actually put your daughter in a regular bed anytime now. Get a net that goes on the side of the bed to keep her from rolling out. My experience, and those of my relatives (large family) is that the toddler beds are quickly outgrown and not really worth the price. Get a twin and start with it low to the floor or on the floor and go from there. There are so many cute kids sheets for them! My cousin, a favorite of my kids, actually came and had a sleepover with the kids when they went to their new "big" bed! Good luck!

The signs your daughter is ready for a toddler bed are when she is getting close to being able to climb out of the crib, and when she is old enough to understand the command to stay in a bed she can easily get out of (not that they obey, but at least understand).
My son was 2 and we moved him to a bed because we needed the crib for his impending sister, but he's willful and sensitive and probably would have benefitted from staying in a little longer if we could have let him. He's always getting up as long as he's awake, and he's 3 1/2 now.
My little girl is more centered and will probably transition more easily to a bed when it's her turn.

We put my older daughter in a toddler bed when she was about 18 months. She had no trouble. The younger one, it was probably closer to 2 years. It depends on the child - do you think your child will stay in the bed? Also, is she is climbing out of the crib, it might be the best thing to move to the bed so she won't get hurt falling out of the crib.

My son has never been in a toddler bed. He's had a queen size mattress (brand new) on the floor since he was 1 (actually he was just barely 1 when we bought it for him). I slept on a similar bed when I was his age (plus, this was common in Korea at the time and my mom is Korean). He still sleeps in it and is almost 2 1/2 and likes it. I never worry about him falling out b/c he just falls barely on the floor, the few times he has rolled off, and didn't get hurt. And, we will use it for a long time b/c when he is older, we will buy the bottom part of the bed to make it higher. I hear kids don't stay in toddler beds for that long.

I moved my son to a toddler bed when he was 2, but only because he had been climbing out of his crib. Ironically, once we set up the bed, it was as if there was an invisible wall around it. He never got up (well, maybe sometimes)....maybe he only liked climbing out of his crib for the challenge! A one year old would probably be OK in a toddler bed (they're [the beds] quite small) but there's no reason she can't stay in the crib longer.

My daughter was 10 months old - that's when she started walking, and we were afraid she would try to climb out of the crib and harm herself. Keeping her in it wasn't hard at all...she didn't know any better.
The older the child gets, the more "independent" they will get. We had a friend who tried the transition at 2, and the 2 year old wouldn't stay put. The toddler bed meant freedom.

There are things you can buy at Babies R Us that will keep your baby in her crib.
NEVER put a mattress on top of it. I know of someone who did and their 2-year-old died because his neck got caught between the mattress and the crib.
I got a toddler bed for my son when he was 17 months old, after he managed to climb out of his crib. I've heard it said no earlier than 15 months, but if you don't want to buy the device I mentioned, I'd probably go ahead and put her in a toddler bed anyway. Even if she were to roll out of it, it's better than falling out of a crib--lower to the floor. Make sure you have a baby gate up at night.

My son was almost 2 when we moved him into his big boy bed. He loved it and never really got up. Then again some people say their kids just won't stay in bed. Mine never climbed out of his crib, but I think when they start doing that it is time to switch them so they don't get hurt. We did it because we were having another baby.

I just put my son into a toddler bed a few weeks ago and he turned two in august. He really needed to go into one earlier because he figured out how to jump out of his crib but I had to wait until my daughter got out of it before I could put him in it. Id say it is different for each child. If your daughter is trying to get out of her crib or wherever she sleeps and you think she might be ready for a toddler bed, I would say go for it.

we put the kids in toddler beds when they started diving out of the crib around 2 1/2
you will have to re-teach your child to stay in the toddler bed and go to sleep. this is frustrating.
