Can they be used interchangeably with a child's finger painting project? Poster paint has the colors I need (I only find finger paint in ROYGBIV) but I need black and white also. Is there any problem using poster paint instead of finger paint? Only real answers please.

You need to test that. Usually it works just fine but finger paint has a thickening agent in it that may have a 'flaking' effect on the poster paint. It is not a big problem but it will need some more work to mix the two. The end result will be just fine.

You can get children safe poster paint. As long as they don't dine on it there is no problem of toxicity Basically the same 'risk' as finger paint.

I don't see a problem with inless its toxic. Or you can also use anything by delta or folk art paint tubes. Those are always safe to use on skin.
