I have a puppy who has only gotten her shots once. She seems very health. What happens if I don't give her shots?

Vaccs are to PREVENT disease, not cure them, so it doesn't matter if she's healthy now - she could acquire a deadly disease and die. Didn't your vet/ shelter/ breeder explain this to you?

Puppies need 3-4 rounds of shots (depends on the brand). Make sure your puppy gets as many as your vet says you need.

Vaccines prevent your dog from getting disease. I would do the three shots that they are supposed to receive when a puppy. The what I do is go every other year for shots. a little bit of prevention could potentially save your dogs life and very expensive treatment of the diseases that they are vaccinated for.
I would just do it. Buying an animal is expensive, but the health and on going preventative medicine is also expensive. You should have thought about this before getting a puppy. You will also need to get him fixed. So make sure you budget for this as well.

You don't have to get a full on assault of vaccines like many people do out of fear and bullying by their vets. Learn how the immune system works and learn the damage that vaccines can cause and DO cause to so many.
We believe in a VERY limited vaccine protocol and in the past I have only vaccinated once at 12 weeks Parvo ONLY NO multi shot with diseases in it that are no more serious then a common cold. Then at 14 weeks I do a distemper vaccine ONLY NOT a multi shot.. Then my dogs and pups get NOTHING else the rest of their lives.
There is no where in nature that a dog would come into contact with 5 to 7 live viruses at once. But they DO when they go to the vet and get that jab of viruses and poisons. Don't believe for one bloddy second that vaccines are 'safe' as everyone will tell you. Some dogs and in fact MANY more then people realize can not handle them. You read on Y answers everyday of people asking why thier dog is chewing holes in his feet or legs or won't stop licking, has other skin issues, allergies, diahrrea, siezures and a multitude of other health issues. Much of that can be blamed on vaccines and the other on grain based crapinabag food not fit for a dog but labled for one.
I have a 9 month old Dane pup who has been to shows and parks and pet stores and never has had a single vaccine to date and she never will.
You need to know there are risk but if you feed a healthy diet and I am not talking about Walmart or the grocery or the over priced crap you buy at the vet.. your dogs immune system is far stronger then those that have had an all out assualt of vaccines and other drugs (heartworm prevention, flea and tick chemcials month after month and grain based diets.
Here are some links I highly suggest you read and share with your friends and family to learn about why a series is given in the first place and why your dog does not need a series of vaccines to stay healthy.

It is the same as children, the immune system of a pup is still very immature and it needs the "series" of shots to instill the protection from the illness.

The layman answer to your quesiton of what will happen, you run the risk of your puppy getting a potentially fatal, if not fatal then a VERY large vet bill.

edited to add... parvo can live in soil for a year....

She can get parvo. She can get rabies. there is a lot that can happen .You should pay the money out get her her first year of shot.these are parvo distemper and her 1 year rabies. after that you just need to go back the next year and get her her three year rabies shot than man you are good to go you only need to up date the rabies every three years after that. it is worth the money in the long run.if you dog gets sick because you didn't get her her shots she can end up costing you thousands in vet bills and she could die. Be a responsible pet owner get her shots done.

No she certainly doesn't. Distemper and rabies certainly aren't around anymore. Don't bother to check her for internal parasites or heartworms either.
Do infants/toddlers/adolescents/elderly need to be immunized ? NOT. Measles, mumps & rubella are a thing of the past. As is tetnis & flu shots.
By not getting the proper attention in the formative years compromises the developing years.

Joking aside...

To not immunize is a gamble and very irresponsible. Please get your dog the care she needs and deserves and be a responsible pet owner.
You have a friend for life & she deserves the best you can provide. Check out your local health department and low cost vets if finances are an issue.
Best to you.

If you don't give her shots 1 you can't Travel with her out of country or states to state on buses , planes etc.
2. She needs those shots to keep from getting ill if she contracts rabies they will cut off her head even if they are not SURE. If she doesn't ahve shots and bites some one they have to Put her down. those shots are put in place to keep HER healthy and safe.

She'll be much more vulnerable to disease, many of which can be fatal.

If your dog never leaves your house, ever, and never socializes with other dogs and no dogs or cats ever come on your property, then she might be ok without them.

For me though, my puppy comes with me everywhere, walking around town, hiking, riding in the car to different places, meeting different people and children.....I feel better knowing she's fully protected to the best of my ability. I'd hate to lose her, I loved her too much for that the first day I had her! :)

She could get any number of nasty diseases just by walking around such as Parvo. You'll also get a huge fine if she's ever picked up by the Humane Society and doesn't have a rabies shot.

Why would you want to risk your pet's health this way?

If you want her to live, she needs her shots! Dog diseases and viruses are airborn, can be walked in on your shoes, and picked up just about anywhere. A pup needs its rabies shot as soon as she gets her adult teeth, 4-6 months of age.
