My cat gets his stronghold flea and worm every month. Found the odd flea on him lately but thought they had just come in from the garden for a free reide! I have been bitten loads on my legs, never seen one on the cat but they are where he has laid. He had been on my sons bed which I have boiled washed the bedding, changed the duvet and hoovered the mattress all over every day for two weeks and his carpet. Also i have hoovered mine and my daughgters beds and carpets every day and the rug downstairs. Is this enough as I am only finding dead ones now for the last few day! At my wits ends as my friend has said she has foubd a flea in her house and she has no pets! Was it me? No abuse please, just advice!

thats too much work, you need to consult an expert to exterminate those fleas
have you tried putting those flea drops on the cat yet?

You need to TREAT your house, not just hoover. Regular Stronghold is good, but it will only protect your animals - most of the fleas are living in your house, so if you don't spray you will continue to see fleas.
I'm in the UK too. You can get some Indorex, Acclaim or Staykil spray from a vets. These all work well, though you may have to do a second treatment 10 days later to get the newly hatched eggs. Or, you can ask your vet to order in some Skoosh spray - a new one that kills the fleas eggs and pupae too.

If you are finding only dead ones and no live ones, I'd say you might have just narrowly avoided a total house infestation. Keep using the treatment you are, and keep an eye out for any live fleas. If you start seeing live ones again, you're going to have to bomb the house, which involves covering all food items, getting all living things out of the house for a few hours, and cleaning all your linens and dishes and everything to make sure there is no residue from the fog.
Also, I'd advise you to rethink the Stronghold. With a flea medication, there shouldn't even be fleas on him for just a free ride. There should be absolutely no fleas on him. It is possible that it is not as effective as it once was. I would recommend Revolution, as it protects agains fleas, ear mites, and multiple types of worms that cats are susceptible to.

I'm not familiar with the product "stronghold", did you purchase that over the counter at a petstore? You really can't put much faith in over the counter products, as they are cheaper, they are not effective, and they are not safe. Although veterinary products are more expensive, they are safe for your pet, and they back them up. For my cats, I use revolution which not only protects them from fleas, but also from heartworm, and some intestinal parasites. There is also Frontline Topspot (which is a great product), that kills fleas and ticks. One more product is called Capstar, it is a pill that kills fleas on your cat within 30mns! It can be used concurrently with Revolution or Frontline, until you get the fleas under control. Once you have protected the "host" (your cat), the fleas will die within 3 days. Just be sure to keep your cat protected. Good Luck!

It sounds like your house is infested with fleas. They can live for months in carpeting until a suitable host comes along. Since the cat is protected, you and your family are the obvious next choice.
Vacuuming will help, but the surest way to stop the problem is to fog the interior, and possibly spray around the exterior of your house, if you live in a heavy flea population area.

Treat the cat for fleas. I've also taken a lamp an put it over a pan of water with a little dish liquid in it. set it on a white cloth.Take care not to get the light and pan together. Fleas jump to the light and go in the water. Good Luck

i put my complete faith in REVOLUTION - which can be purchased from a vet's office (without an appointment). It's a bit on the pricey side I just paid 79$ for a six month package (six vails) for cats 5 to 15 lbs.
It also protects against heartworms, mosquitos and ticks. nothing really works better for my cats --- 2 two year old boys and a 6 month old girl who all go inside outside.
