I once overheared a guy in a bar sayin' he done wrote that thur song an it was about trappin' squirrel. He would do anything fer love except fer trappin' squirrel, cause he had a pet squirrel when he was a young'un.
I reckon if I loved somebuddy enuff I would even trap a squirrel. It doesnt mean ya can't let it go afterwerds if its ok.

A lot of people think it has some kind of sexual connotation, but I really don't think it does.
Have a read of the lyrics
http://www.lyricsdownload.com/meatloaf-i-d-do-anything-for-love-but-i-won-t-do-that-lyrics.html
He mentions a few things he won't do for 'love' or for the sake of getting sex. Here's a list of things he won't do.
"But I'll never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way"
"But I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight"
"But I'll never do it better than I do it with you, so long, so long"
"After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on"
"I know the territory, I've been around
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down
And sooner or later, you'll be screwing around"
I think it's about making a promise to never hurt someone, or string them along. It's about having a relationship that's about more than sex.
Of course if this was just an excuse to give free hugs....

I think it had to be something that was something that Meatloaf would never ever do, not in a million years. I would think it was one of three things.
1) Change his personality for the girl.
2) Change his religion/ belief system.
3) Lose weight.

I don't think they were anti-hugs. I'd love a hug from meatloaf; the first guy i "slept" with looked like meatloaf just and he's hugs were awesome.
I love hugs.... how could anyone be anti-hug :)

You know I asked my mom what is it that hall and oates are talking about and she said whatever it was must have been absolutely out of the question cuz they say "I'll do anything that u ask me to but I can't go for that.

Meatloaf won't do:
"I'll never forget the way you feel right now ..."
"I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight ..."
"I'll never do it better than I do it with you ..."
"I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life ..."
Also, screw around or move on according to his backup singer.
That's "that" is in each verse.
Hall and Oates refused to give up their soul.

No, I'm sure "hugs" is part of the "anything" that Meatloaf would do for love.

(For Meatloaf it meant)
Enter a 12-step program.
(For Hall & Oates it meant)
Enter reparative therapy.
Just kidding.
((((hugs))))

I really do want to know too. I just asked my boyfriend about it the other day but he hates meatloaf. lol
Edit: I just looked this up (haha I am really bored.)
In the line, "I will do anything for love, but I won't do that," the "that" is whatever he said just before that. For example... "But I'll never forget the way you feel right now-- Oh no--no way-- I would do anything for love, But I won't do that" - The "that" in this particular verse is "forget the way you feel right now." Meat Loaf said this himself on his StoryTellers episode on VH1. (thanks, Melly - Chicago, IL)

Meatloaf said he "won't do that" meaning he won't sleep around with other women because he loves his girl too much. That sounds like a {{{HUG}}} to me.
I don't know anything about the other one.
{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}
