Good question, Midge. Obviously the Church's teachings on faith and morals on modern issues cannot be included in the Bible, which is 1600 years old.
This is why we have the Magisterium, the Catholic Church's council of bishops, united with the Pope, to study, discuss and discern these issues under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
It is recorded in John 14:15-16 that Jesus told the Apostles that after He is crucified, there will be a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide the Church into all truth and the Helper would remain with them forever.
In remaining with them forever, the Apostles understood that they were to pass their ministries down through the ages. We call this Apostolic succession, and all Catholic bishops are succeeded directly from the Apostles in a 2000 year old unbroken line. This is how the Holy Spirit has remained with us and guides us today.
To deny the infallable teaching authority of the Church is to say that either: 1) Jesus did not keep his promise, 2) the Bible is incorrect or 3) the Holy Spirit is not capable of guiding the Church.
Do you think any of these three things is possible?
Thanks for asking.
Be patient, spiritro..., a competent answer takes a little time....

Outstanding question. Whenever I run into a similar question in my own personal journey, where there isn't a clear answer in scripture, I seek a multitude of counsel, trusted, Godly counsel, I remember 2Co 3:6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit;* for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
What do you believe the Spirit is telling you about the subject in question.
I'm pro life but in all my prayers and life experience I think outlawing abortion would be catastrophic on many levels. I try to put myself in the position of friends that have had to make that decision and my heart breaks for them. Just as my heart breaks for people who have lost friends and family much to soon that may have been helped by stem cell research.
You have had totally different experiences from me and the Spirit may lead you to believe differently. If all the answers were in the bible, we wouldn't need to spend time with God, the thing He desires most. Sorry I don't have a clear answer for you but in my opinion, even if someone says they do, I'd still go to God with it.

It is believed by some that the Antichrist will be cloned.
Watch the term 'image' in the following texts -
Revelation 13:14,15;
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should MAKE AN IMAGE to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
And he had power to give LIFE UNTO THE IMAGE of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Then check Revelations...
(14:9,11); (15:2;) (16:2); (19:20); and (20:4)
The work in Stem cell is viewed by some as a step towards cloning...

The holy spirit does leads us into all truth and help us pray as well. IN these morden days and times he also help direct and leads and intercede for us. Yes the holy spirit can tell us things pertaining to this life apart from what you see or read in the bible. The holy spirit warns christians of danger and many thing that will astound mankind. Cloning is rejected by christian cause it messes with the natural creation of God intent. Just like they build that towel to babel, I would say God knows when enough is enough. Man cannot out think or do what God will not allow and know when to stop any process.

Scriptural and Biblical ideas on Embryonic Stem Cell Research:
Jeremiah 1:4-6 (New International Version)
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you
Ethical issues
The Bible teaches that humanity starts at the beginning of biological life
Since murder, intentionally killing human life, is wrong, it follows that ESCR, human cloning and induced abortions are wrong because they all involve intentional killing of human embryos
Genesis 2:7 does not support the view that the human embryo does not have a soul or humanity
The secular media is largely biased towards abortion
The secular media is not against imposing one’s religion or morality, as long as it’s humanistic religion or morality
The successes of non-embryonic stem cell treatment have largely been overlooked
Justifying the killing of embryos for research or medical benefits will help dehumanise them in the eyes of the public, and perpetuate the idea that one class of humans is expendable
The previous point seems to be the real agenda behind the push for ESCR (Embryonic Stem Cell Research)
-------------
The Bible can still be applied to such things pretty
easily.
The biggest idea against ESCR is the snowball effect
for the disrespect towards life.
Sure, if there is no spirit involved (or believed), there will
be disrespect towards it!

Because we go not just by information, but by principles revealed in the N.T. For example, show me where it specifically says molesting a child is wrong in the Scriptures. Does that mean we have nothing to say about it? Of course not.
We don't need a prophet, but if someone claims to be a prophet we should test them by Biblical standards.

because research on embryonic stem cells requires the destruction of a living human being, it is against God’s will. no amount of promised “benefit” to society or to medical knowledge can justify the killing of a human for spare parts. the end does not justify the means. it is never ethical—in fact, it is morally reprehensible—to mark people for death in order to conduct utilitarian experiments on their body parts. (i believe that research on adult stem cells is a legitimate field of study, because it doesn't require the loss of a life)
As far as cloning, according to the bible, God is the only one who rightfully exercises the sovereign control over human life. to assert control over things like this is to place oneself in God’s position. clearly man isn't to do this.

there are tons of things that we wont know until we get to heaven. Isiah 55:9 says, "For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."
God thinks on a whole different level than we do. our tiny brains cannot compare in any way to the amount of knowledge that he has. Sometimes we just need to trust God and know that he knows better than us even when we dont understand.
so, thats my position. sorry i couldnt really answer your question

realist approach:
human cloning: bad
stem cell research: good (as long as no central nervous system is grown)
