I am not a tech but rather a pharmacy intern. There are quite a lot of techs in your region. The best way to find a job is to contact a company and inquire about any open positions in the next 4-12 months.

I worked as a pharmacy intern at Walgreens, and with talking with some of the techs found out they start at $9 per hour if not certified.
In Illinois, if you get your tech license after January 1, 2008, you will be required to be certified within 2 years of receiving your license. This is assuming the new pharmacy practice act is signed by the governor or he does nothing and October 29th arrives; therefore, the act becomes law.
