My fiance and I want to say our own vows to each other but we don't want/ need that slip of paper that comes with the traditional ones. I was thinking about having just a big party with all of our family in the back of the house and saying our vows to each other with music playing from a cd I just need to know one thing who sings the song " I finally found the love of my lifetime"

well I have already been married once and when you think about it all I got out of that marriage was the most important thing in my life my son. I also got a few swollen lips and bruises and scares and a lot of broken promises. Getting out of that marrieage was one of the hardest things to do and the most expensive mistakes I have made in my life. I think I'll choose a commitment wedding this time I understand the tax benefits and the rights and all of that I DON"T WANT THEM... All I want is to be with thw LOVE of my Life and be able to share our lives together

Mock wedding love it!!! I assume it's really a a commitment ceremony? there is more to being married than a piece of paper, there are some legal benefits down the road, but that is your choice and I really don't mean to lecture!

It's from Firehouse... love that song!!! Miss the '80s (and my youth)!

Congrats.

Commitment ceremonies are a fun idea--as long as you are aware that you will not be legally married and will not have any of the benefits of marriage, including society's. At any time down the road if you break up, your relationship is no different than a boyfriend/girlfriend. So keep your finances separate and try to be aware of "joint purchases/joint debts" make things very difficult to split. You will not be able to legally get any marital rights (including medical decisions).

In the medical field, many times couples who have been together 20 yrs are very upset when only the parents (as kin) are given a right to make crucial life support decisions.

A wedding does not have to be some big lavish outrageously expensive affaire, but that piece of paper is the part that makes it a marriage. If you aren't ready yet, consider a few years from now going to the courthouse for something legal.

u do know that that slip of paper gives ua HUGE TAX RIGHT OFF?> if ur serious about getting married why just go through the motions. take ur vows seriously and have it legalized. what happens if ur fake husband dies?? his family would have more fo a right to his assets than you! u need that paper to protect ur rights! what if he gets oin an accident, u wont able to see him bc technically ur not his wife. if ur too immature to see that than ur not ready for marriage.
