Wheatgerm is a good extra for porridge. It is even better toasted. Throw in some fresh fruit and you're rocking!!
I totally dislike porridge. It makes me gag. My Dad loves it, he ate it all the time in Ireland. I have to disguise it with lots on toasted wheat germ (when toasted it tastes a little nutty), then put in lots and lots of fruit, Then, most of the time I only eat the wheat germ and the fruit. My used to say when we were little it was good before school because it would stick to your ribs till noon!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a former chef and use it along with falx seed meal for extra fiber, just one word of caution, to much can be hazardous, I mean it can keep you to regular if you know what I mean.

I use it and as I said the flax seed meal along with currants and raisins, I find the fruit reduces or eliminate the need for sugar, just a bit of plain old milk or cream, even carnation milk is nice, I use a 50/50 mix with powdered.

1 tablespoon to a bowl is sufficent, but less if you find it to potent.

Toasted wheat germ is great on porridge; it gives it a nutty taste and is good for you. It's also good in yogurt, or mixed with bread crumbs when breading something to fry.

They are both good for you, add it if you like the taste.
You might also consider flax-meal, sprinkled on or mixed in.
