What is the annual income maximum, that a person can make and not be required to file taxes?

If someone has not filed taxes in the past 6 years, can they file them now and get caught up? If so, how?

Also, if a person does not have W-4 forms for that time period, how would they get copies of them. If they are unable to get copies, how do they know what amounts to use for filing.

Thanks.

CALL IRS AT 1-800-829-1040, for assistance. If you do not have your wage information (W-2 or 1099) call the above phone number, and they will send them to you for free. They will give you a certain time to file the returns such as 30 days from the date you call. Will they will let you know what years you are required to file, by looking at your wages.

Eventually you will be getting a letter from IRS requesting you to file the returns or they will file them for you and you will owe lots of penalties and interest.
You will not get refund for the tax year 2003 and prior, but you are required to file it anyway.

call IRS and get current.

If you were required to file and didn't, you not only can but must file the back returns.

The amount you can make before you have to file depends on many things about your personal situation, and how you earned the money (whether social security was withheld or not). If you worked as an employee so ss and medicare were withheld, then if you are single and not a dependent of anyone the limit where you have to file is $8750 for 2007, a little lower for previous years. If you are an employee, single and a dependent, the limit is $5350. If you have your own business so have not had social security and medicare withheld, the limit is $399.

The forms you need are W-2's, not W-4's You can get copies from your employer or previous employer - if you can't do that for some reason, you can get copies from the IRS.

If you didn't file but received W-2's and weren't contacted by the IRS, that probably means that you didn't owe anything, and had a refund coming. It's too late to collect the refunds from before tax year 2004 - those have been forfeited. If you have refunds from 2004, 2005 or 2006, you will still get them if you file.

The filing requirements are different every year. Unless you are a dependent, or over 65, the filing requirements are the total of your standard deduction and personal exemptions (not dependent exemptions)

You should file all years you were required to file. If you don't the statute of limitations never starts to run on money you may owe. You cannot get a refund due on any years prior to 2004, because the three year time period for claiming a refund has ended.

You should be able to get your W2s from your employers. If you can't, you might be able to get some records from the IRS.

You need to see a tax pro because laws, forms, and numbers change every year. You might of lost money by not filing even if you were not required to file. You might owe, including interest and penalties. I afraid you have to work with someone in your area to straighten this situation out. You will not get a thorough answer here on Yahoo.answers.

If you have not filed some tax return, you can file them late. Penalty and interest will be added if you owe money on them. IRS can send you W-2 and other income reporting documents if you need them.
