Hi, coincidently, I have a former abandoned rescued cat named "Pebbles" also!
She was an older adult dumped in the woods before I got a call to rescue her,.. semi-tamed.
She adapted fast to her new name I gave.
As with all my rescued cats (most NO history at all and are adults, with the exception of the feral kitten I trappd in industrial area winters ago), they all acquired new-found names from me.
No problem, as long as you name-change as soon as you can when you got cat.
Here's some suggestions ,.. wished you described kitty though:
-Daphne
-Halli (coz of mth. of Hallowe'en)
-Wilma ("Pebbles" - get it?)
-Wanda (derivative for 'wanted')
-Sandi (smaller than pebbles!)

Try combining her current name with the new name at first like if her name is Faith say "Faith Cookie" and give her a treat when she responds. After she gets used to that just start using "Cookie" and a treat. It shouldn't take her long to get used to it. All of my cats know their names and their main nickname and they respond by at least turning their head. It's too much to ask that they come all the time. They are cats after all. But none of my cats pay any attention if I just call "Kitty, Kitty."
The site below has some really cute name suggestions. Good Luck

I had to name my cat. She was about 3 years old when she decided to move in with me (I didn't buy or adopt her from a shelter, she wandered in and decided to stay). I had no idea what her previous name was, so gave her one I thought suitable - Grumpy. She does respond and quite often wags her tail when I ask her if she is grumpy. Wait a couple of days to see what sort of personality she has and then chose. As long as you use the name often, she will probably respond.
How about Wilma!

Shouldn't be too much of a problelm....just give her a "treat" when you say her name, and she should start responding quickly. You said you wanted a "fun" name, and your other cat is "Pebbles"? Why not stay w/Flintstones and name the new one...."Bam Bam"? Sounds like you're in for some fun! Good luck.

I know a lot of people who have adopted older cats and have changed their names. Cats aren't really good at responding to their names in the first place. They aren't dogs (and that's why we love them). It may take the cat a few months to connect to its new name, but I don't know anyone who has ever had a problem.
What about Wilma (like the Flintstones)? I know...not great, but I like to give my cats human names. :-)

well i dont think that you should change the name of the 4 year old cat .she might be used to her own name .thats like having a child and changing their name when they r 4 that would be a good idea..... i think it is perfectly fine if u change the kittens name ....if it is a girl you should name it candy...and if its a boy u should name it slinky or river or something saying wat it does ...like if he likes to jump maybe you cam name him pounce

They don't care what you call them. Just feed and love them. My cats come when I say their names. I even have a special whistle for each of them and multiple nicknames.

You would have to start calling him both names like Darko-Homer or Homer-Darko, after a while he'll get used to it...eventually you can drop the Homer.
