I find the topic of phobias interesting; I once knew a girl who was terrified of TOMATOES! Yes, that's right, I kid you not!
And yes, I know this topic isn't about Israel or the Middle East, but I'm still interested in your answers. Do you think that sometimes an extreme form of racism is almost like a phobia? I've heard racists speak about both Jews and Muslims and sometimes it seems to me a bit like a phobia in some respects!
(for anyone unsure, phobia = an irrational fear that is so intense it can affect your daily life/routine/decisions)
So, do you have a phobia...?

HEY 'h' - what you describe is 'obsessive compulsive disorder' (OCD), not a phobia. But I take your points; I hope you are well, have a lovely weekend!

'h' - seriously, your friends needs another diagnosis! A phobia involves avoiding something, not doing something compulsively, and then going crazy if you can't, which is what you describe your friend as doing. He has a compulsion: totally different from a phobia. I would strongly suggest you advise him to seek a second opinion.

no, I do not have any phobia and I guess also all the other answers don't have a phobia. A phobia is a sickness and shows serious symtoms. Do not get mixed up with being scared of anything like spiders, roaches etc.
At my first job I had a boss with a "washing and cleaning" phobia. As soon as he shook sombody's hand he HAD to wash his hand. He always opened doors with his elbow but never with his hands. He even bit all his nails off being scared that some dirt would be under his nails.
A phobia means, you HAVE to do certain things in certain situations. But even extreme racism does not fall into this catagory. That more falls under obsession, addiction, fear, misinformed, uneducated , ignorance, etc.

edit: sorry to correct you Tabatha, he was diagnosed with having a phobia, because when he could not wash his hands, he went crazy. But - on the other hand, I am not a medic.
I guess these cases are very difficult to diagnose what they really are. Well, just glad that I do not have any :))

Dogs. I will seriously push anyone out of my way to get away from a dog, I don’t think about anything else but me getting away. By the end of the event I have many people to apologize to. Even if a dog looks friendly I will get far away from it. I think that counts as a phobia?

Yup.. Roaches is one.. Driving, I don't drive yet and I'm 19.. And two extremely weird phobias lol.. One, I can't let anyone touch my neck, otherwise I'd go completely coco and attack whoever touched it.. Two I can't look up at any high building or a tree or the sky.. In other words.. I can't look up... I'd be scared like crap and I'd lose my balance even!

I don't know what phobia means exactly.. but I will try to give an answer. When I see a person rub his/her eyes, I start rubbing my eyes immadietly and they become red and I feel as I am going blind.

ARAQUINOPHOBIA... spiders huhhhh they are awful... if i see one i can't sleep at night, and i can't even go back to same place where it was found...
I heard that most of phobias start from an event that happened while you were little. Like when I was about 4 y.o. my mom said I was putting my shoes on and there was a spider on my shoe... After that i couldn't even hear the word spider... and i am scare until now...
where are you from in Israel? I am from Brazil and my hubby is from near Afula. He used to play basketball there for several teams. We now live in New York.

I watched way too many horror video clips so now im scared something will pop up in he darkish. the only way i ought to sleep is that if: - my ft are no longer over the mattress reason: i think of something will grab me and pull me -my mattress is against a wall reason: so i purely could face one way, and wont difficulty that something will grab me from my lower back -i'm no longer via a window reason: something won't come for the period of the window -i'm no longer on the floor without somebody reason: something will grab me, and who will i carry with me? :P So im generally scared somethings going to snatch me :P fact: maximum all and sundry is afraid to spiders than to loss of life Its authentic...yet im no longer fearful of spiders except they are tarantulas... yet another fact: i'm fearful of being buried alive or locked interior someplace darkish

Yes, I have a phobia of germs
I know there are good germs fighting within the body to protect you...but I still think its gross and I cannot stand thinking about them....

I WILL NOT stand or walk on any grates/sewer man holes/ basically anything covering a hole in the ground, no matter how small. I will go a mile out of my way before I walk on it. It freaks me out when other people do it, even on TV. People say its wierd but you have no idea how strong those things are!!
