To be honest,I don't think so. I'm not just saying that because I'm a Gordon fan. Today,Nascar is getting tougher by the day. In years to come it'll be even tougher. The tougher the sport is,the harder it is to win. nascar is probably the toughest sport out there. Gordon came along when Dale Sr wasn't at his best and there weren't very many "good" driver's out there. Nowadays you have the names such as Stewert,Johnson,Ky. Busch,Ku. Busch,Newman,Hamlin,Kenseth..etc...so as you can see the sport now is much tougher so in years to come it'll only get tougher!!So Gordon will be a legend for a long time and his records may never be broken!!

well if you look deep into this at first you want to say yeah cause who knows the future. But maybe not cause as the competition gets harder and harder every year. The 24 might leave with 100 wins and 6 or 7 championships...I think someone could get more championships than petty dale and Jeff. cause under the new system anyone in the chase who makes it through the ten races without a dnf would be tough to beat. you can have drivers who are always good enough to get in the chase and then always have a lucky chance of the upset.. i think the championship is harder to win and more of a lucky thing than a talent thing...I think for someone to ever be in Jeff's domain they would have to get close to his win totals and in as many starts...the 24 beat the 3 in wins in some 300 less starts . that is always over looked. winning is winning ...I have always been a 24 fan. but I like him cause he is a great driver and I when he hangs it up I hope there are kids around to take his place that will give us as much fun to watch as he did.. i feel bad for all the 24 haters cause its been a hell of a ride haha routing against him is like routing for the browns to win..sad sad ! :)

Jeff Gordon is doing great and has done a lot in his NNC career, however, he's not to be the greatest driver "ever" because lets face it, there's going to be new drivers, just like JG was, that can be just as successful as JG and he/she too will never be the greatest 'ever' driver.
JG is great right now....However, once he retires, he might and more than likely will have his stats challenged by a new young gun. It's a part of the sport...Records to be broken...new records to be made....

being a jeff gordon fan, you'd think this question would be a lot easier for me. actually, richard petty is the king and always will be. and not just for all his wins. he helped make nascar become what it is today, well, before nextel took over, and nascar is more into charity work and good things like that. people look up to him for good reason.

No, Jeff Gordon is God and will win a Gazillion races before he retires, and nobody will ever beat that.
Everybody else should just give up on racing because they will never be able to beat Gordon.
Nobody who is a fan of anybody other than Jeff Gordon knows anything about racing, and should just give up on their drivers. They should change the name of the series to the Jeff Gordon Show, and just let Jeff run laps by himself and win all the races.
NOT!

No. Simple as that. He is the best driver I can think of and he started young and has had great success and started with tons of talent and a great desire and passion to win. He had the best equipment and has won 81 races, 4 championships, and has won over $84 million dollars. He won back to back championships in 1997 and 1998 and he also won 13 races in that 1998 season. Wow. No one will be able to pull off those kind of stats now with all the competition and in 14 years of racing.

...Gordon is a great driver but part of his success is due to great equipment. Who ever has access to those resources has the same shot as being as good of driver as Gordon.

Depends on how you define "greatness". Mark Martin and Tony Stewart have more championships than Jeff, just not in the Cup series. How "great" can one driver be without any IROC wins? Stewart has several sprint car championships along with an IRL championship to go with his 2 Cup championships, not to mention several Chili Bowl wins, which is quite an accomplishment by itself. Martin has a bunch of ASA championships and tons of wins in the truck series and the Busch series to go along with his accomplishments in the Cup series. You could argue that Martin and Stewart are much more accomplished and talented race drivers than Gordon, who doesn't do much outside the Cup series.

first of all you need to figure out what a good driver and great drive is. I am pretty sure you will change your wording because I personally never seen too many great things come from Gordon. I have seen his team work on his car from the constant crying on the radio about what a piece of junk this car is and they work on it and get it right. But never have I seen him do some sort of spectacular driving.
I just think he falls under good for now.

In order to answer your question, Jeff Gordon would first have to be established as the greatest driver. Since that is much to controversial a topic, it is impossible to answer your question.
