The reason it isn't easy is because there are several hundred muscles that work together to shift the center of gravity in the human body to maintain balance. Divinchi realized this a long time ago and it was one of his obsessions to unlock the mechanics of the human body.
Basic moves and balance by gyroscope are all that are possible with current technologies.

'Stability' in control systems is a fairly big subject. There are lots and lots of websites devoted to the subject of building robots (humanoid and other types). Get on a search engine and go looking.
