Many hospitals offer an Email the Patient service. Go to the hospital website where you can leave a message for the patient. The hospital will print out your message and deliver it to the patients room. (my son's hospital offered this service and he received many messages in this way.)
You will need to go online to check the hospital where the patient is being treated to see if this is offered or not. It would be under 'Contact a Patient' or 'Messages' or 'Email a patient'.
Here is an example of a hospital that offers this service:
Boston's Childrens Hospital: Contact a patient

MD Anderson: Message to a Patient

Good luck!

It depends on the hospital, but most hospitals are just starting to get wirless. Unless this patient has access to a computer/laptop, emailing may not be the best way of communicating.
