...should I be worried? And do vision problems come up that quickly? (he was examined about 6 mos ago as part of his physical- no problems were noted) He has complained about not being able to see the board at school, and after speaking with his teacher she agreed he is having difficulty...

he has an appointment this weekend- I'm just worried- any insight or experience with this would be great.

It probably just didn't change overnight.
Over the past few years his vision has been getting gradually worse but your eight your old didn't notice until he couldn't see the board anymore.
Genetics are fascinating.. anything can happen.
You can talk to your eye doctor about it but I don't think there is anything to be concerned about.

If the eye doctor confirms that he needs glasses and finds nothing else wrong, get the glasses and do not worry (other than about the possibility of him not wearing them when he is supposed to).

If the eye doctor finds something more serious, you may or may not need to worry, depending on what it is.

If the eye doctor finds that his vision is fine and that he is faking a vision problem as an excuse for poor schoolwork, then he may have a learning disability.

Just because he need glass doesn't mean it necessary came from the family. Vision probably can come from many reason, many cause by the child's activities such as sitting in front of an computer or TV all day or half the day. Or they may acquire on there own. Don't assumed! Ask a professional.

i think it is very common for younger children in school to develop eyesight troubles. looking at a chalkboard all day long from short or long distances puts a lot of wear and tear on the eyes. it should be nothing to worry about, some eye problems can fix themselves with the aid of glasses. if he does end up needing glasses. make sure he wears them. some kids tend not to wear their glasses because they are afraid of being made fun of at school. not wearing the glasses can do more harm and cause permanent damage in the long run.

I'm not a doctor, just to say that.
I don't think you nessicarily need a family history to have a vison problem. Could it be the tv, or computer? I know that makes my eyes hurt. It's good your getting him checked out through. Make a list of questions and give them to the doctor.

Let the expert have him do the Snellen Test. It is just a test to see how far you can see various fonts at certain distance (vusual acuity).Hopefully, he would be close to 20/20 if not 20/20.

I don't think you should be bothered (until after the test).

Has to start somewhere so maybe it has with him. Lots of things that ail us are out of family history control. Both my mother and father only needed reading glasses. I am blind as a bat. So no need to worry.

Did you exhibit those concerns to her wellbeing care expert? in case you experience she would not want glasses, get a 2nd opinion. A +5.00 Rx is very intense, extraordinarily for a three year previous. additionally, dilation of the eyes would not make certain a guy or woman's innovative and prescient. that's what the wellbeing care expert does with examining the letters on the wall, making use of diverse lenses in front of the attention and announcing "Is it greater appropriate with lense a million or lense 2?" or something to that influence. A dilation purely helps the wellbeing care expert to look on the cornea and make constructive it relatively is healthful. i've got worn glasses on the grounds that first grade. the attention wellbeing care expert my mom and dad took us to grew to become into an entire quack. He gave me bifocals (i grew to become into 6 and had no hassle seeing up close) and on an accepted basis eye drops. The drops dilated my eyes, so he additionally gave me the transition lenses that turn darkish interior the solar. it relatively is to no longer say that i did no longer want the glasses, I did (my innovative and prescient is now a -12.00). yet he grew to become into considered one of those medical doctors who grew to become into in it for the funds, and to no longer help people. in case you think of your daughter would not want glasses, in line with probability her wellbeing care expert is an identical way. understand that having undesirable innovative and prescient does no longer propose a guy or woman isn't clever.
