Nope you can't. Just go to wallmart and by a universal remote for about $15.00.

If replacing the remote isn't an option, they can usually be repaired, or at least made to work well enough to use the special setup buttons that are missing on universal remotes.

If you can find a TV repair place they should be able to repair it. I suspect it would be cheaper to use the "Remote Doctor" place that is linked below. They also sell some exact replacement remotes. The one I looked up was cheaper than the $23 repair price!

The other links are information about repairing remotes. I've resurrected a few myself.

If you edit/add the model and symptoms of the remote, I might be able to say more.

First Aid for non-working remotes:

1. Check to see if batteries are OK or replace them with new ones. Check to see if the batteries are oriented correctly and that the battery terminals are not corroded.

2. If the remote control can control more than one thing, press the button for whatever you want to control. (The last remote I "fixed" was only used to control a TV. Somehow the "VCR" select button had been activated so the remote "stopped" working)

3. Remove batteries, press and hold down some buttons. Replace batteries (Reprogram if necessary). Try remote.

Remote controls are fairly cheap. The most common problem is dampness and dirt on the switch contacts. Before buying another one, remove the batteries from the control and try to open the remote control by removing any screws and prising the two sections apart holding the control upside down so that the buttons do not fall out. gently remove the rubber pad and dry it with kitchen or toilet paper. Use a pencil eraser and rub the dirt from the copper side of the circuit board. Put the parts together again, insert the batteries and try it.

I had the remote control problem when it shorted out so I jumped started mine with my modling rocket starter control (9 volt battery) and it rebooted the remote control. Im not a repair mand but just experimenting stuff to see if it will work or not lol.

Yes you can - but you need someone like my hubby!

Best bet is to just buy a cheap universal one.
