I know that lots of people say, "because theres no evidence," but what about creation? i think Gods way is a lot more convincing than "the big bang theory." and then theres that excuse, "because i want to live life my own way." Well, if theres an surgery needed to be done on a best friend, your not going to say to the surgeon, "i want to do the surgery, its my best friend!" And what other explanation can they give us about death? I mean, id rather not take a chance. other than that, why don't people believe in God?

In my case, there is no reason to believe in God.
And I will use your example of "because there is no evidence." Creation is not evidence of a god. Creation is evidence that we exist. A very high-level and reflexive argument that doesn't do much for the case of God.
Now, one can suggest that our existence is proof of a higher being. That's not good enough for me, but I can respect that suggestion. But what does it mean? Does it mean that the Christian God exists? The Muslim God? The Hindu pantheon? Some other god that we don't realize? "Creation" is not a compelling argument, because it doesn't prove anything. It only shows that we are here, and we already know that.
I would argue that "because I want to live life my own way" is not a valid argument for not believing in God. To say that would imply that he acknowledges God's existence. He just doesn't want to play by the rules of the underlying religion. Someone who says that doesn't really not believe in God.
What explanation do you need about death? People die. That's what happens. We pick up the pieces and move on. While there are some people who cope better if they believe that their loved ones are in a better place, some of us are just fine knowing that our loved ones lived rich lives and left a very impressive footprint in our lives. Why would we need tales of an afterlife to soothe us?
Edit: In reading some of the responses, I think I see where the excuse of "living life my own way" comes from. Nonbelievers don't use this as an excuse for not believing in God; believers use it to disparage the nonbelievers. It's easier to dismiss an atheist by saying that he is consciously spitting in God's face than to actually examine why an atheist doesn't have a reason to believe.
Because let's face it; if there were even a shred of viable evidence that God exists, there would be zero atheists.

You force yourself into faith for the reason of "Just In Case". The Christian God does not accept that as faith.
The lack of evidence is my reason as well as the fact that every civilization from the dawn of man has had deities. In early man kind there were a lot of gods. Over time it has narrowed to just one in most cases. History also shows that religions come and religions go. This one has lasted a long while but so did many others of the past.
Have you actually studied the Big Bang Theory? All the current proof points to that as a very likely start to the universe. What facts, what proof points to creation? A book written by man, that is it. Nothing else.

Well GOD I have never seen, heard or touched and my DOG well he is always right by my side all the time. If someone were to try and attack me it would be my DOG who would put his life on the line to protect me without a second thought. Now what would GOD do? Well I guess I would have to pray to be saved and then hope for the best and pray that my prayer is heard and gets answered but by then I will be history since an attacker isn't going to sit and wait to see if GOD is going to defend me. SO yes I believe in my DOG

Basically what your poing boils down to...and you even admitted it when you said this...
"And what other explanation can they give us about death? I mean, id rather not take a chance."
Your only reason for believing in God is your fear of going to hell. That's some pretty weak-minded reasonings, if you ask me. But then again, you're not unlike the majority of christians who would rather "cover their bases" and believe in the unbelievable, rather than use their ability to think rationally and logically for themselves. Which, if you did, you'd probably come to the realization that neither heaven or hell actually exist.
You're the kind of christian that makes christians on the whole, look bad, and you're also a fine example of "By their works shall you know them"....
Jesus weeps for you....because he knows you're not a "real believer", you're a "just in case" believer.

but some find the big bang way more convincing than creation ...
and no one is Atheist because they want to do what they want...
that would mean they are just pretending not to believe in God to ease their conscience ..
and as an ex Atheist , I know that is not true

the meaning of faith is you believe in something that you have not yet seen but you know in yourself is true you need some good discipling go to church and talk to the pastor read the bible get a contemporary version that is easier to understand the message bible is a down to earth version that reads more in a book type format than the more traditional form

there's evidence for the big bang though
and none for your god
Will I be seeing you in a hijab anytime soon? Going against Allah is like saying you want to do surgery on your friend.
and then you go and reduce your god to a fear of death deary me

Satan has his hold on many people.....I think a lot of people find it "easiest" to just believe what they want to, to justify their sinning and their way of life. All we can do is have faith in the Lord and pray for the ones who are lost. God Bless!

I must admit, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to gods.
What a lottery it is finding the right one.
Why are you so sure yours is right - be very careful.
If you believe that all but one of the 8000 (approx) gods are false then it is a fair bet that the remaining one is also false.
