In the culture in which that parable is given, the invitation was sent MONTHS in advance. It wasn't a last minute invite. This wasn't just a "Come on over for coffee" type of invitation, but it was a full banquet that had taken a lot of preparation.

In that culture, to refuse an invitation in that manner was the rudest thing a person could do - a real slap in the face.

This was a picture of how the Jewish people, those chosen of God, after rejecting God's very personal invitation to enter in, gave all kinds of excuses - and that's what they were - excuses, not valid reasons.

When those who were initially invited refused to come, the invitation went out abroad to everybody and anybody who would come.

However, remember what Paul said. If a wild branch can be grafted into the tree contrary to nature, how much more so can the natural branch be grafted back in? And if the natural branch was cut off because of unbelief, how much more so the wild branch grafted in contrary to nature be cut off because of unbelief?

The invitation remains to the Chosen. But remember, not everybody who left Egypt entered the Promised Land. An entire generation died in the wilderness because of rebellion and unbelief.

er - did I even answer your questions? Hmmm. Oh, well.

Well, obviously this is a parable that Jesus told in the bible recorded in Luke. The Master invites all people and if they turn Him down, he will invite others. I'm not sure about Him inviting them again. I know that after a while if people continue to reject Jesus their hearts will be hardened. Conviction from the Holy Spirit may last a while for the lost. I know my husband was under conviction for three years before he submitted to Christ. I see parallels with everyday. Christ is always saying come unto me and people are always rejecting Him.

(1)The people are all of your "friends" who make up excuses so they don't have to hang out with you.
(2) I think you will invite them again because you don't know anyone else
(3) I do see parallels with today because this just happened last night.
SUCKA!

Why does he have a slave?

And seeing behonest's answer, does it mean that people who try to preach to others today are in fact slaves?

There is no "master", thus noone has ever been invited, so your question is mute.
