Theoretically, that could certainly happen. There are no rules in evolution that we evolve to be smarter or less hairy. Those were just adaptations that increased survival and procreation.

Apes (I think you mean Gorillas) and Humans are both evolved species. i.e. Gorillas or Orangutans are not more or less evolved than humans. Just differently evolved.
Certainly, there could have been a common humanoid ancestor. Some of which branched off into humans, another which branched off into the other modern great apes.

However, the fossil record provides plenty of evidence that it didn't happen this way. So, let's just say its very very unlikely.

I suppose another ape could have branched off from early hominids, but that would appear to be a step backward in evolution, which would not be supported by natural selection.

For another ape to branch off from homo sapiens or homo sapiens sapiens and became another intelligent species that developed space flight and took all evidence of their existence with them. It is also possible that what we call homo sapiens sapiens today is actually a bunch of formerly separate species that can interbreed.

the human species is a very old one indeed

there is a long chain of evidence between the Neanderthals, and hobbits, it would take a person with great knowledge of history and archaeological studies to explain the links of our human origin

Apes are the members of the Hominoidea superfamily of primates, which includes humans.

The family Hominidae consisting of orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans, collectively known as the "great apes".

[edit] You're just lying now.
